Homer`s and Marge`s cars slightly changes in the new intro from Series 20. Most important things are that homers car is now a 4-door and marges car is now a station wagon and hasnt any chrysler badge on the hood like before (but maybe covered by homers body). All the people who have insisted that Marges car is a 1973 Chevrolet need to be more convincing. It is 100% non-descript and not intended to be any specific model. The 1973 Chevelle/Malibu was much rounder. The body, especially to the rear, almost resembled that of an oil tanker.Marges car is all straight lines, and has a sloped and pointy rear like a 60s car.The front end looks like a Bronco or Scout. Can we include the family cars as "Made For Movie" since they were intentionally nondescript BUT play fairly prominent roles? since they appear in the credits and numerous episodes, they could probably qualify for inclusion. -- Last edit: 2013-12-07 19:18:10 |

The actual model of these two is debatable; they are just generic cars. Maybe they should be listed as "made for movie", but on the other hand why these and not others then? Usually we do that only for cars being part of the movie/series, like Flash McQueen in "Cars". |

It's too background/small and a little too generic looking. Could be a Stratus, could be a Neon, could be something else; it's not really well-defined. |
◊ 2023-10-02 10:30 |
Also, it is apparently a re-use of the drawing of that Neon: /vehicle_1101081-Dodge-Neon-PL-1995.html So it could be listed in comments there |
◊ 2023-10-03 09:28 |
Thanks for the reply. The Neon of that era was quite distinguishable and had proportions that differed enough to make it impossible to mistake for a Stratus. Here is a Neon that matches the body style by era, almost at an identical angle as in the vehicle in the show. Taillight design is different, door guards are wider, and overall proportions are more condensed. It definitely resembles the Neon posted, however. Link to "en.wikipedia.org" https://pics.imcdb.org/10555/sedan1413.jpg https://pics.imcdb.org/10555/sedan31413.jpg This vehicle lacks the door guards seen on any of the rest, and is the only one seen from the front quarter, but there is no mistaking it given the striking resemblance to real Neons. Link to "en.wikipedia.org" The differences are subtle, like curvature of the windowsill, and width the rear pillar. So I believe there isn't much doubt about the blue and orange vehicles, which very obviously resemble Neons. The red one seems to share features combined with both the Neon and Stratus. The tailights and curvature of the rear door by the wheel is like that of Neon. I'm amused to see assets reused, something I'm used to seeing in video games. Also, after this post I plan to watch S23E17 as I can't wait to see that vehicle in action. Because the purple one I posted is from a later season, it's plausible that it began as a reuse, but there are many obvious differences to indicate it was changed intentionally, and I believe, to intentionally resemble Stratus. Here are Stratuses from the rear: https://www.netcarshow.com/Dodge-Stratus-1997-1600-02.jpg Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" The outline of the rear door at the wheel, the thin door bumper guards, the thicker rubber strips around the rear bumper, more prominent black trim around the windows, specific differences in shape of the trim, with flat window sills on the bottom (vs curved on Neon), gentler rounding out at the top, and sharper rear edge on back doors. All characteristic of an overall longer vehicle, which the Stratus was, and which the purple vehicle has been changed to after seemingly starting out as a copy of the red vehicle. And of course, most obvious, is the taillight that has thicker red on the top, with a thinner but still prominent row of amber on the bottom. This also happens to be the most prominent difference in style compared to the Neon, if a more apparent feature can't be used. The specific shape and color combination of this feature is unlikely to be coincidental, and does not appear any other vehicles that could otherwise be mistaken for the Stratus, further implying that the design was intentionally Stratus. In an attempt to group the vehicles together and make comparison easier, I have made an image that contains them all, cropped to focus on the vehicles. Since they appear on screen oriented in opposite directions, to make direct comparison and comparison with real models easier, I have have included flipped images with the originals. The orange and blue vehicles are obviously close enough in resemblance to be identical, and as shown above share a great amount of detail with the real Neon. The red vehicle is a Neon, and likely inspired the purple one. But the purple one has undergone enough changes to more closely resemble the Stratus. With all of the changes made and with comparing to the real Stratus, I believe my submission should remain. If nothing else, if no consensus is reached, perhaps there is an unidentified vehicles section they can go to at least be on the database? We can all at least agree it is in fact, a vehicle. And likely drawn to resemble something real given the similarity to existing vehicles. Perhaps the asset will be reused more later and make the issue more clear. One more thing - To explain my obsession: https://autopolis.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/1996_dodge_stratus_es.jpg Is the one I owned and posted on Wikipedia in 2010. The wiki has since been changed, but the original pic now lives on at this site! -- Last edit: 2023-10-03 11:45:26 |
