Released in 1977 but looks like it was filmed in 1974-1975. Why do some films do this? -- Last edit: 2024-08-17 18:49:28 |

Several reasons. Troublesome post-production (editing process), lack of distributors or lack of funds to promote the film. |

“Don't ask me how I got 'em or where I got 'em; just be glad that I got 'em.” Not a bad movie, but Wendell Scott deserves better than this fiction. And this Buick deserves a HD pic: ![]() Movie upgraded to a rather unconvincing HD (it actually looks just like the dvd, only larger). |

^ Chopped up feel is the usual malady of movies that try to cover too much ground in too little time. They usually exhibit no sense of time and this movie is definitely guilty of it (a few grey streaks in one's hair is not it, dagnabbit!). Another problem is the casting of Richard Pryor. He's very good, as the case may be, but on account of him the movie wants to be a comedy, but most of the time he seems to want to play it straight, which leaves the movie neither here nor there. It's too lightweight to work as a drama, it's too serious to work as a comedy. It doesn't work as a biopic either since it's mostly fabricated. Somehow it's still entertaining, especially when Cleavon Little is around. Vincent Gardenia of all people gives Smokey a decent run for his money, too. |
