Another forgotten 80s series, but I remember it as superb at the time and now 25+ years later released on DVD. By Roger Marshall, who also did the excellent Travelling Man, and again with excellent cast, well constructed characters (in first series at least), lots of boats and beautiful photography and use of locations. Two series (S1 - 7 episodes and S2 - 6 episodes); no locations given on imdb, but filmed in London, around Buxton (Derbyshire), Fleetwood (Lancashire fishing port), Ross-On-Wye and Wye Dean (Gloucestershire), Bristol, Cottisford (Oxfordshire), and Barfleur (the main French location in Normandy), Rouen, Dieppe and Paris. It's also apparent that a few non-specific UK sequences such as cars driving down urban roads were filmed in Manchester area (perhaps echoing Manchester area use in Travelling Man if this was the crew's base). Like Travelling Man, it has a strong anti-drugs message but this time much more heavily emphasised throughout the plot and all the contrived opportunities for DRUGS ARE BAD speeches get a bit too evangelical. First series is still pretty good, but second now seems too stretched out with plot holes, improbable coincidences and a general loss of direction as it limps to the conclusion. And - unlike Travelling Man - the theme music is instantly forgettable pap. However the cinematography is excellent throughout - really exploits the visual interest of its locations, and beautifully composed pictures and sequences which make even mundane places and cars look interesting. Some unexpected faces looking strangely young in those days: Grantley Budgen from Waterloo Rd (Philip Martin Brown): Gina Mckee Tram in Fleetwood at the north end of the Fylde coast line from Blackpool (ep1.05, 17-00): Not many traffic lights for rjluna, but there was this temporary light in ep2.04 in the village square: |

In our market, we have pole on each corner with hanging wires for temporary traffic signal lights during construction/repair. Some states have smaller budget that made a permanent traffic signal lights fixtures. My comments at Traffic Lights in Internet Movie Car Database. -- Last edit: 2013-06-21 19:59:45 |
