un film bourré de trucks |
◊ 2006-02-11 23:23 |
For this movie, 3 stars does not always mean "used by a character", since some trucks have a role but are used by nobody Some other that I did not include: - A Scania... the engine of the bridge - A lawnmower in a minor action: Notice the black lines on the Scania picture, indicating that the scene is maybe taked from somewhere else. By the way, the picture of that DVD is quite strange: it has a 2.15 ratio -- Last edit: 2006-02-11 23:24:55 |

Why don't you like it? That Bible Salesman was so friggin not Christian. He really sucked. But I guess the kid was kind of sad to be killed. He didn't diserve it. But that stupid Bible Salesman sucked, really sucked, I wish King got his wish and was allowed to have the Bible Salesman's face ripped off. |

◊ 2006-04-11 23:56 |
The GMC Astro 95 is a cab-over-engine truck GMC used to make in the 1970's and the early 1980's. chevrolet's version was the Titan, the two links below show both trucks. Gmc also made a longnose cab called the General while chevrolet made the bison. http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/jim_cox/2005/aug/gmc-astro-95.jpg http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/doug_grieve/dg_reliable_chev.jpg |

I read that the Dixie Boys truckstop, that was in fact an original standing structure that was added onto, had alot of truckers fooled thinking it was a real truck stop. It was stated that many stopped in there only to find out the truth. Also the Green Goblin mask is in the possesion of someone who has restored it, and I forget if he is goin to try to find a replica truck to put it on. The soundtrack to this movie is great, but there is one thing they should have included that guitar solo when Duncan's kid creeps up on the bible salesman in the ditch. -- Last edit: 2006-04-14 06:45:43 |

The movie "Trucks" has a Mack B-series, International Transtar, a white delivery van, several Ford F-series and the main truck is a Western Star much like the Western Star in Maximum Overdrive it seems like Trucks is just a Maximum Overdrive rip-off more now then ever! |

Is it okay to take pictures of cars and trucks in the opening or ending credits? |
◊ 2006-05-30 16:38 |
It is maybe not very useful to list the vehicles that just pass if they are not uncommon. I included few vehicles from the credits in "The Junkman" for example because an Iso or a Ferrari is not too common. But if they are just common pickup/sedan it is not really worth listing them (no need to list ALL the vehicles visible). |

you betcha! We have a John Deere push-mower and it has the feature that you hold down a lever and it'll move/help you push and all you would need to do with it is get ome invisible string, tie it and point it to something (maybe, my little brother...) and let a rip. P.S. I don't know anything about lawn mowers. |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-01 23:43 |
Oh, and during the making of "Maximum Overdrive", while shooting the scene when the lawn mower chases Deke around the neighborhood an accident accured. The remote-controlled lawn mower went out of control and chopped up a block of wood on the set, it chewed up the wood and a wood chip flew out and hit on of the crew. It actually cut his eye out, he pressed charges against Stephen King but he lost. Information for all of the above was gathered by the Internet Movie Database (IMDB.com). |

What happens to the Ford dump truck? |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-10 01:28 |
Which one? 1) The orange, 1968 Ford F-700 is seen in the first scene when the draw-bridge opens up, it is caught in the middle. The birdge opens and pulls off the rear axle and the truck falls into the water. 2) The white, 1982 Ford F-700 is only a background vehicle that crosses the bridge in the first scene. 3) The white with a red stripe 1971 Ford LN 9000 is a minor action vehicle that is seen through-out the movie (from the third scene when the trucks start up and start circling the Dixie Boy to the end when it drives with it's container up into the gas station canopy and getting stuck) and in one scene drives into the ditch after Billy, Curtis, Deke and the Bible salesman (dead at this point) and knocks the end of the sewer pipe off (breaks a headlight, and thats all). |

Here a bunch of questions and answers for this movie 1. Why do apparently bloodthirsty juggernauts not just drive through the flimsy wooden truck stop building? A. Because the trucks didn't know the building was made out of cheap wood until the bulldozer went through it. 2. Why doesn't Connie and Curt's car turn on them like all other machines? A. Because the power of the comet affects diesel, battery and electric powered engines only. 3. Where did a truck learn morse code? A. That truck was in the ARMY. It heard just enought to figure it out. It just couldn't put it to good use until now. 4. Just who the hell keeps a bazooka in their basement anyway? A. Bubba Hendershot was in Vietnam. He haven't left. 5. Why are machines so intent on causing damage to other machines - destroying your allies is hardly the way to take over the world is it? A. They were just taking out the weaker machines, the ones that was slowing them down. The smartest one always prevails. 6. How on earth does somebody get killed by a Walkman? A. He was "noised" to death. 7. How does the truck know where the humans are? A. It read the script. 8. How come the speaker at a fast food joint would yell "humans here!" since machines have no ears to hear the cries? A. They are like snakes. They can "sense" sound waves though the ground. 9. How does a huge tractor trailer truck manage to sneak within ten feet of a supporting character who not only has a clear line of site, but is standing in front of a reflective surface? A. Because he (human) didn't know. He was "special". 10. Just how explosive would a trailer full of toys be? A. It depends on how much explosives you use and what kind. The explosion wouldn't kill you, but the projectiles will. |
◊ 2006-06-12 04:53 |
May someone please give me a list of what company do these trucks stand for? |
◊ 2006-06-12 04:57 |
Carfan, what is the huge tractor trailer you're talking about? And does a 18 wheeler really sneak up on someone? |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-12 05:38 |
I'll list all the companies I know on the truck's own page. Yes, a truck actually sneaks up on someone. While this guy (I don't know his name, not an important character) is stealing a women's large, ugly, diamond ring of her dead hand (she died when sticking her head out of her grey sedan's window and the window choked her to death) he is walking back to Billy and friends while they're geting the boat ready. The 1974 White-Western Star 4800 "Happy Toyz Co." truck sneaks up behind him and floors into the guy for one last kill. |
◊ 2006-06-12 11:52 |
The western star is allready down at the marina before they arrive(how can a human out-run a truck in the dark?). The character Brad Discovers a woman(dead from choking by the electric window-opener(??)). He desides to steal the poor bodys ring, not knowing whats behind him before it`s to late.... |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-12 15:14 |
While the women is hanging her head out of the window, the power windows roll up and choked her to death. It actually has happened in real life with kids and dogs, and now American automakers (I don't know about non-US) disign their window bottons so that you lift it up to open and push down to close. |
◊ 2006-06-12 22:12 |
Don't look at me. I didn't make up these questions. It just does i guess, that's all I can say. Besides, it doesn't matter this was just a movie. Also if you mean the company printed on the trucks (That are visible) i'l tell you. Some of these don't have companys but i'll list what they say. 1981 Western Star 4800: Happy Toyz Co. orange international Transtar II: BIC stationary, Lighters, Shavers. Black and Blue International Transtar II: Mayfresh Toilet Tissue 1971 White-Freightliner: Miller Brewing Co. "MADE THE AMERICAN WAY" Autocar A64 B: Zeke's Trash & Garbage Removal. Chevrolet Step-Van P-20: My-t Tas-T Ice-Cream. Gmc Brigadier: Thurston Freightliner Cabover: Liquid Oxygen 1970 Diamond Reo C-114D: Some brewing company i think Brockway 400 Series: Glow Dairy 1973 Mack R-685 T: Worsley Transport -- Last edit: 2006-06-12 22:51:25 |

Do the trucks honk their horns to communicate to the humans and themselves? -- Last edit: 2006-06-13 03:53:58 |
◊ 2006-06-13 06:03 |
Import cars have been using those types of window switches for a while now. That's where the domestics got the idea. |
◊ 2006-06-13 13:17 |
No, alltough it was written that the goblin truck blinked its headlights to tell the Ford LN 9000 to get in the ditch. Allso after the Malibu flips over they all honk their horns. |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-13 16:19 |
Well the Mechanical Mule comunicates with the humans with its horn. Remember? It honks it's horn using morse code and Deke translates it? It tells them to fill them up with gas or it'll bring backup and blow up the truck stop. |
◊ 2006-06-13 18:28 |
I don't see why it's so hard to understand some of the Q&A's I posted. Also, did the Happy Toyz truck tell the LN9000 dump truck to go in the ditch? |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-13 18:44 |
I didn't notice. They all started blowing their horns when the LN 9000 went down their. I always laughed because whenever the people went out of the truck stop, they all started blowing their horns just like whenever a car drives up our driveway every single one of our dogs start barking. |
◊ 2006-06-14 12:47 |
The script said so and the all the trucks did stop when the Ford drove into the ditch. -- Last edit: 2006-06-14 12:47:56 |

And one more question:who was a Western Star driver? |
◊ 2006-06-14 19:30 |
I mean who drove the BIC IH Transtar to the Dixie Boy? |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-14 19:47 |
They don't tell you, the only one you know for sure is the African American Handy who drove the 1974 Western Star 4800 "Happy Toyz Co." truck. |
◊ 2006-06-15 02:17 |
The Western Star runs over a dead biker at the end of the film. It allso has a kind of damage on the chrome bumper right before it kills Brad. The script mentioned the goblin truck, knocking over the Dixie Boy sign as the trucks destroys the gas-station. |
explorer4x4 ◊ 2006-06-15 03:04 |
Cool, I'll have to look for that. I wish they'd have included that in the final cut. They must've changed it because they put the Dixie Boy's main sign on the building, that big star, which stays on for a little while after it gets blow up. I thought the explosions in Maximum Overdrive were pretty lame and weak. When Bubba Hendershot shoots the Caterpillar, it knocks off the cap but no explosion at all, this is obviously a break-away. The explosion of the Dixie Boy was obviuosly dynamite because two big fireballs went up in the East and West of the building, yet the Liquid Oxygen truck was towards the middle. The Autocar and toilet-paper rig (International Trasntar II) were hit with the rocket launcher but the trailer was the only thing that actaully blew up. The cabs just burned afterward (yet the Autocar was hit dead square in the hood). The Brockway's explosion was pretty good, but it made the milk look more flamable then the Liquid Oxygen. |
◊ 2006-06-15 11:54 |
The M72 LAW was ment to be a anti-tank weapon, not an anti-truck weapon. You know how a rocket like that works? It`s supposed to drill thru the armour and explode inside the tank. I believe, if u hit a truck head on, the rocket would drill itself thru unntill it esplodes. Allso, the Transtar toilet-paper rig does blow up, but toilet-paper burns better than metal. When Hendershot only manages to blow the top of the CAT, there is obviously something wrong with the rocket. As for the Liquid oxygen, the gas probably filled all the rooms, making everything blow up at once. |

I distinctly remember that scene towards the end where the Goblin truck runs over the dead biker in the road. I copied a video rental of Maximum Overdrive ages ago, and I know it's in that. When they released the DVD though, did they cut it out? I did buy the DVD a few years back, but I watched that old VHS tape so many times that the whole movie was ingrained in my head, so I might not have even noticed if they took out the part where the truck runs over the dead biker. As for gruesome scenes, for some reason the part where the Chevette on the drawbridge smashes to a stop and the woman gets thrown out the windshield always bugged me. And then I was always unclear on this, but when the Dodge van flips over, does it actually land on her body?! I remember it was over on the same side of the bridge as the Chevette. The part where the guy gets hit in the head with the soda can also bugged me a bit, but I think it was partly because of the bad editting. At first he just gets hit and it looks like he only got hurt, because you don't see any damage to his forehead. It's not until a moment later, in the closeup, that you see the imprint. I remember that grossing me out a bit. The part with the steamroller did shock me a bit, because normally you don't see kids get snuffed in movies. I watched it with my Mom once, and that part totally repulsed her. And overall, I think the part that disturbed me the most was the dead dog with the toy police car in its bloody mouth. I always hate seeing animals get hurt/killed, especially for entertainment purposes. And I know that normally they don't snuff household pets in movies. But sometimes they do take real animals that are already dead, such as from the dog pound, and use them. At least, they did that in the original "The Hills Have Eyes". I always wondered if that dog in Maximum Overdrive was an SPCA cadaver or something? |

I was kinda in the mood for it, so I put in my Maximum Overdrive DVD last night and watched it again. Oh, and I went through some old sales brochures that I have, and found one for a 1979 Malibu. That dash display with the round gauges was available in 1979, so I'd presume it was available in 1980 as well. The Malibu in Maximum Overdrive is also a base Malibu, not a Classic. I could tell by the door panels. And while it just had idiot lights for the oil, amps, and temperature gauge, it at least had a clock! In the letterboxed DVD you can see the clock, but if you have it on video or taped it off the tv, you you can't see that much of the dash. Also, I'm still convinced that they pieced together that dash display from several different cars. No American car, especially a generic family car, in 1980 would have had a 120 mph speedometer. That speedo had to have come out of a police car. But then a police car would have had full gauges and not idiot lights. But probably wouldn't have had a clock. As for the wheels, those rally wheels up front were common on Novas. I also have a Nova brochure from 1979 (picked up some real cheap at Carlisle, PA last year) and it shows that wheel as an option. Normally the center part is chrome, and the trim around each of the 6 wheel openings is chrome, and there's normally a chrome trim ring that snaps on around the outer edge of it. I have an auto encyclopedia that also shows a 1978-79 El Camino with those rims. And on "Mama's Family", there's an episode where Mama buys a blue '73-74 Nova, and I think it has those rims as well. As for the rear hubcaps, or the hubcaps on the car that had all four hubcaps, I think they were off of a Nova as well, or maybe off of a '73-77 Chevelle/Malibu with 14" rims. The '73-77 was a much larger car, easily full-sized by today's standards, and many of them had optional, larger, 15" rims. Also, another piece of trivia...the rear windows in the 1978-83 Malibu did not roll down. They were stationary, and the little triangular windows in the back flipped out. Or in the wagons, the little quarter-window in the door flipped out. GM did this for a few reasons. First, they hollowed out the door panels and built recessed armrests, so these smaller cars would have as much elbow room as the bigger '77 models they replaced. As a result, there was noplace for the window to roll down into. Anoter reason is that it was just cheaper to make them that way. Fewer moving parts. There were a few scenes in the movie, where they showed the car with the rear driver's side window out, giving the impression that they rolled down. |

Oh, almost forgot, I did notice in the DVD that the scene towards the end where the Goblin truck runs over the dead biker is still in there! Are there any deleted scenes from Maximum Overdrive that anybody knows about? I remember back in high school, a buddy of mine told me that there was a part where you could see half of a chewed-up body by the lawnmower that goes after Deke on the bike. All I ever remember seeing though, is the lawnmower with blood on it. |

I try to find the DVD of this movie, and I heard it had the more full version was had the scene does we can see the dead body of the ice cram van driver on the floor of the van's cockpit. |

if the comet have the effective to diesel engine(such as many trucks and Catterpillar buldozer) and electric devices (Walkman.radio control car, power cutting knife, gas pump) only, but what's happen with this. -The machine gun on Willys M274, why the gun can shooting by itself by don't have any mechanism inn itself what can make it work by itself, look like the gas pump can hurt Duncan by spits diesel in his eyes, because that's pump hav the power motor,or the many trucks can alive because they have the engine in itself,or the cutting knife can hurts Wanda June because it have the mechanism of electric device in itself. But the machine gun on Willys doesn't have. -If the comet's effective can't make the gasoline engine in passenger can alive (such as the Curt and Courtnie's car), what's happened with the pizza guy's Volkswagen, include the gasoline engine of the lawn mover too. or the pizza guy was killing by chasing from another truck in that's area, not killing by his Volkswagen. -And if the comet have the effective with all of electric devices, It's also should have some effectivetive with electric devices on Curt and Courtnie's car and Loman's car ,the radio, air conditioning, power doorlocks, instruments panel, headlights.it doesn't the electric devices? |

@carfan: your comment, answering the common questions is slightly flawed. If the comet only affected diesel, battery and electric powered engines only, then explain the scene when curt and connie were driving past the 3 wrecked cars and the headlights began to flash? unless just the battery that would most likely be destroyed by the looks of the cars was running the headlights? |

Just added a whole lot of cars from the opening credit bridge scene, ready to be validated. It's still not every car from that scene but the I added some that I thought that they may be good enough to be on this page. |

When you add pics with multiple vehicles on them, you should use the function to add a highlight rectangle on the pic: once the pic is added, click "Edit" to go back to vehicle details and then you'll see a field "Car location" with a link "Select on picture" allowing to click on the picture where is the vehicle. Now that they are validated it is too late (so I did it myself), but that's for next time -- Last edit: 2014-10-21 11:14:01 |

The new Vestron collector series Blu-Ray is awesome and has some good features. The picture is way better than the other Blu-Ray's and I can see the HT'z trucks steering wheel which reads White. It has a feature on Tim Shockey's green goblin head and that is the only one used in the film. You can see the other one in the other features rotting away at the studio. -- Last edit: 2018-11-05 23:43:51 |

just to jump in on the green goblin truck, I noticed a lot of the posts about what truck it was were posted by Junkman, strangely enough my first job was in a scrap yard, that had a tractor being used as a yard dog with open pipes that sounded exactly like the goblin, I've also heard a few others in the years since and there is only one engine that makes that exact sound, an 8V92TT Detroit twin turbo, so no idea if that's what was actually under the hood or if was an over dub like the Harley sounding single cylinder dirt bikes, but your hearing an 8V92TT. |

Here we go, I finally found the exact model for the HappyToyz truck. I posted it here because of the fiasco on the truck's own page the resulted in the page being locked. To put it simple, it's a 1976 White Western Star 4800, albeit, severely modified. The modifications that were put on this truck are as follows: A 1970's Kenworth Sleeper, custom air cleaners, custom front fenders, a different bumper, new interior, heavily modified exhaust pipe and stacks, and the iconic goblin head with wired lights for the eyes. This photo right here then shows something interesting... The front fenders, headlights, and the head are one giant piece! On top of that, the bumper is a custom too. This leads me to believe that the entire front grill was removed, and the head covers it up. White-Western Star's years are very confusing. For sure it's not a 1971 or older. 1972's had a square air cleaner. 1973-75 is a possibility, but the fog lights on the roof lead me to believe that's not the case. 1976-78 is by far the closest of a match, both years have the right headlights, fog lights, hood design, and basically everything else. I doubt it's a 1979 and newer because it doesn't have square headlights; and the hood became more boxier than the round. I think this is the closest we'll ever get to solving this puzzle unless some crew member knows everything about this truck. Hopefully an admin can change it to what it should be, and we can finally put this case to rest after 16 years. -- Last edit: 2022-05-09 16:41:25 |

Added the German luxury sedan that a dead woman is hanging out of, likely a Mercedes but given the angle, a BMW is likely too. A trucker steals her ring and is killed by the Happy Toyz big rig. |

I just added a large amount of trucks and vehicles to this page. So here's some footnotes. - The HappyToyz Truck role was actually intended to be given to two other trucks. The original truck was actually a 1978 White Road Commander 2. I'm not sure why the movie makers changed this, but I assume it was likely due to how hard it would be to sculpt the head so it could fit onto the truck given the lack of a hood. The second truck that was intended to be used was a 1981 Mack R-700, and again, not 100% sure why this was changed. But I think this is where the misconception of the actual truck's year comes from. Both of these trucks appear in the movie for only brief moments which is why I added them, mainly for their significance in the film's history. Information about these trucks came from the Facebook group that the leaked BTS photos came from. The posts from which I sourced this from must've been deleted as I cannot find them. I only saved the photos from them and not the actual info. - I added Bubba's Cadillac. I'm surprised it wasn't added yet, even if it was featured on the other Cadillac's page. - I added pretty much every background car or truck that was visible. I tried to avoid duplications because a lot of the trucks are of the same model and just have different paint jobs. |

Unfortunately, that van is far too background to warrant a listing or identify what it is. Even if it was a super rare 1963 Ford Transit prototype co-produced by Ford UK, Bedford, and Bristol (this vehicle does not actually exist ), it's still too small to list. Then again, this posting for a 1958 Land Rover exists in infamy despite the fact that only a window is present /vehicle_3447-Land-Rover-Series-II-1958.html |
