Slightly befuddled by this, as we don't seem to have another. A fair few googled refs come up, split between Snipe and Super Snipe and a pic in my Bumper Book of Humbers has a clear pic of one of these as Snipe. Possible explanation is they were Snipes, but fitted with Super Snipe engine (effectively a Pullman motor).

This entry for "Truck, 8-cwt, 4x2, GS, Humber Snipe PU" (scroll down this page) gives

Maybe official name was just Snipe??

Nice truck, shame no canvas tilt as they were always fitted.
Spot on for early war, most were lost in France.

Prior to Dunkirk British army had 8cwt , 15 cwt, 30 cwt and 3 ton trucks.
After Dunkirk lessons learnt were applied and they just standardised on 15cwt and 3ton as they could do the same job and more as smaller classes.
They were virtually the same cost/time/resources to produce and it made spares etc simpler.

I would propose we could use 'Humber Snipe PU 8cwt 4x2' (there were both GS or FFW versions). PU appears to be either 'Patrol Unit' which I've seen one reference to, or possibly 'Patrol Utility'.

We already have 2 examples of Humber PU 8cwt 4x4 here.

Also Morris-Commercial PU 8cwt here.

There is an interesting article concerning FFW and FFR in Wikipedia.

Link to "en.wikipedia.org"

It explains why the vehicles were more frequently “fitted for” than “fitted with”.

I always thought PU stood for pick up but may be wrong.
I will consult Bart Vanderveen .

Maybe we should split the two 4x4 Humber 8cwts from the 4x2 Snipe as they are a completely different vehicle .
The 4x4s a new military vehicle from ground up.
