The 1999 model that was used for most scenes: Rick and Shane's car switched between the 1999 model seen above and this newer 2003-2004 model: But for some reason, during the roadblock scene, the car had 1998-2002 wheels. You can just see how these wheels don't fit the newer 2003-2004 Crown Victoria as 2003+ wheels have a much higher offset: The secondary Sheriff's vehicle that provided assistance to Rick and Shane was a 2001-2002 model: -- Last edit: 2010-11-16 08:59:09 (ford_guy) |

Second thumbnail seems to show the Police Interceptor badge on the truck lid ... |

These cars had a striking resemblance to the cars used by the Georgia State Patrol: Seeing as how the show was filmed and is set in Georgia, it could be that they re-dressed older GSP cars or painted their prop cars to resemble those of the State Patrol. As is usual with many other productions, multiple vehicles were used to depict the same car. The one in the main capture is a 1999 model and was the most-used one by Deputy Grimes. I have broken down Neon's post to more specifically identify the different Crown Victorias used (I hope you don't mind Neon). |

Shane's car in 2.02 appears to have been a 2000 model with a 2001+ honeycomb grille while the car in the rear was a 2003-2005 model. |

Do you think they deserve a new page? |

I think they're fine here. Their presence was quite minimal either way. |

When you think about it, a Crown Vic would be a good choice of vehicle in the apocalypse. Just about every police, taxi and fleet service uses it, so parts are fairly cheap, and in the apocalypse, it'd be as easy as checking a police or taxi garage for spare parts. |

Actually a 2002 CVPI: http://www.southernpicturecars.com/Each_Vehicle/2002_ford_crown.htm As Southern Picture Cars did also work on the set http://www.southernpicturecars.com/The_Walking_dead.htm |

The main car is definitely a 1999 model. One of the other background cars must be that 2002 listed on your link. |

Clearly an ex-police car as it has a hole where to spot light was and actual chunks out of the steering wheel lol. I've owned many a former cop car with chunks out of the steering wheel! |

Also, if you go to the "Extra footage" bit in the special features and watch the "Behind the scenes with Robert Kirkman" segment, at the end they show a bit from the scene where Rick Grimes shoots the little girl. And they show him escaping the gas station in his car and you can hear what this Vic REALLY sounds like! It seems to be badly in need of a tune-up. |

Lot of cars in film are in rough shape mechanically and on the interior, since all they have to do is look good for the camera. In the Christian Bale film "Harsh Times" (2005) they had several identical Crown Victorias on the set to represent the same car in case of mechanical troubles. -- Last edit: 2023-07-15 08:26:40 |
