An odd thing...this is a supposed to be a new car in the movie (you can see the sticker in the window), but the movie is taking place in late 1990 or early 1991, yet this is 'Vette is obviously a bit older than that.

Well, its offensive when you like swear to attack or hurt someone, but if it is just swearing (and not verbaly attacking someone) it is fine to me.

I am confident this is a 1985 model. In the scenes around 1:12:37, you cannot make out "Cross Fire Injection" on the black trim behind the front wheels, meaning this is 1985+. There is no center high mount rear stoplight, so this is 1984-85. And, the wheel centers are black, not natural metal finish, so this is 1984-85.

@ Skid:

I thought about that too, but I think the Corvette is meant to be portrayed as a used car, albeit one in excellent condition. Walter even mentions that even after the kid supposedly bought the car, he'd have 970 000 or so left. 30k seems a little lean for a brand new 'Vette, at least to me.

I think it's meant to be new, this is set in 1991, perhaps $30K was what they cost back then? Walter says he'd so much money left "depending on the options", implying it's a brand-new model.

$30-$40k, depending on options, would have been about the right price for a new Corvette in 1991.

Plus, Walter refers to it as a "new 'Vette" when they first see it.

cargurus.com has the MSRP for a 1990 Corvette Coupe listed at $32,479, so they were about right. The 1991 model (which could've been available in the movie's September 1990 timeframe) had the redesigned front fascia and the smaller tailights from the ZR-1, so I suppose they were trying to depict a brand new 1990 which would've still been kicking around on dealer lots at the time.
