There was a Scooter tribute band called Moped - http://chrismoyles.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=22322 . They became The Lancashire Hotpots - http://www.myspace.com/thelancashirehotpots - and seem to be a Northern version of the Wurzels. I'll let ingo investigate further ..... |

@ cl82: why? |
◊ 2012-06-01 21:36 |
I don't see why either. This music is rad. |

Rad? Ok. It's just not my kind of music- to be honest, I even think it can't be called "music" at all, but if you like it, that's totally ok with me. As with cars, it's all a matter of taste. By the way, I've often heard that Scooter are more popular outside Germany, but I never believed it until today. Funnily enough, it always seems that the most embarassing bands from Germany are nevertheless quite succesful and popular abroad. |

Scorpions were decent enough. I liked Alphaville too... Not a Scooter fan though. -- Last edit: 2012-06-01 23:00:15 |

@cl82: With your last sentence, are you referring for example Tokio Hotel, Rammstein and the Scorpions? Those are coming immediately in my mind in that coherence. -- Last edit: 2012-06-01 23:02:06 |

While this kind of music does not in my opinion reach the levels of the 1950s music, it's certainly not bad. Not as bad as the "music" they get away with nowadays. |

It's a great song, I used to listen to it for hours. -- Last edit: 2012-06-01 23:45:40 |

Naah, I better stay with that moped-related song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqKi_9p1zks |

@ingo: Exactly- well with the exception of the Scorpions (I simply had forgotten them), but you are right, they never were as popular here as they were abroad. And the German music-journalists have been hating them since the day they first appeared. But the names you mentioned are rather newer ones. The first large-scale export of horrible pop-music "made in Germany" started in the mid-1970s during the Disco-era when three producers (Farian, Moroder, Kunze- all based in Munich, all using the same studio and session musicians) sold millions of records worldwide- per year. Then we had the 1980s which were even more producer-oriented (which resulted in "groups" like Milli Vanilli), then the 1990s, crammed with techno and dancefloor nonsense- and the list goes on and gets worse all the time. @ Lateef: You're right of course, but please don't forget that Scooter still get away with their "music" today which has virtually been unchanged for almost 20 years. Heck, there even was Scooter before there was Scooter- here's the proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaSEIWVBuys |

Oh, before I forget: recommended elektro-pop with a moped-related name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eRoNzjwjkI&feature=related |
