 Regardless of whether the series was advertised, why were Nash cars so popular with the US police?

 From what I can tell they were bulletproof, frugal, large but relatively lightweight cars with powerful engines that were ideal for patrol duty and light offroad use. They were roomy, with plenty of headroom and visibility. They weren't quick nor handled particularly well, but it seems that these shortcomings weren't a priority back then.
