I'm not much for football thanks to perpetually bad refereeing deciding too many games, but Eric Cantona was and is cool as f**k.

You're talking about British cinema? What is it today... not much to speak of. The British film landscape is being suffocated by the US film industry (and it's not just Britain... it's all of Europe... except for France, which still benefits from the "cultural exception"—though there's plenty to be said on that front, too).
Ken Loach is still around—one of the few contemporary British filmmakers with global recognition—making films that, while varying in quality, always strike the right chord in exposing a world crushed by the powerful. Strength to him!
