A short movie about the city by the Chicago Board of Education, originally released between mid-'45 and mid-'46. Can be seen at vimeo.com/88065833. |

It's a short subject but it's also a documentary. Perhaps the type should be the latter? |

is this "doc" about cars ?? should we keep it ? |

Nice, Skywatcher68 ![]() |
◊ 2014-03-25 22:03 |
Yes, because it has some very old and nice cars. ![]() |
◊ 2014-03-25 22:32 |
I don't even... Old documentaries like these are kept on the site, despite not being about cars ![]() |
◊ 2014-03-25 22:33 |
Some of the cars with a 2 star role look like background cars just passing by. |
-- ◊ 2014-03-25 22:35 |
Yes. Actually all of them seem to be 1-star. Is there an explanation? (I am not against having it listed) |
◊ 2014-03-25 22:42 |
I don't really have anything against this being listed either, given the time period, but Lateef does raise a good point since the admins lately have restricted rules on adding documentaries and limiting background cars. |
-- ◊ 2014-03-25 22:51 |
I think Lateef means the opposite. I think he agrees with it being kept. |

but haven't we already have ENOUGH old docs like this which aren't about cars ? then it just starts to get repeats and repeats of same car pool and image quality if of course often very poor due to age -- Last edit: 2014-03-26 00:30:37 |

Sort of. It has some great driving scenes on Lake Shore Drive but is largely about the city of Chicago. |

Other than the lumber equipment, all ![]() ![]() Pretty much everything which would be deemed "too background" is on this page. -- Last edit: 2014-03-26 01:19:34 |

That is correct. |
◊ 2014-03-26 15:33 |
Personally I'd probably vote no to this. |
◊ 2014-03-26 15:42 |
That's like saying "don't we have ENOUGH old movies that aren't about cars ?" It was decided more than four years ago that documentaries older than 30 years or having footage of that vintage, should be treated the same way as movies in terms of having them listed. And what do you mean "enough"? Is that limit something you have defined? The day recurring footage becomes a large-scale problem, it can be taken into consideration. This footage seems unique to other site content. And you should know that certain users like seeing cars of these car pools, despite the fact that many models are recurring. And it should not be taken as obvious that the picture quality is very poor just because of the age. It all depends on the source. Personally, I can't be bothered with the picture quality unless I know there exists a version superior to mine in terms of quality. |

No, the site is about cars in movies. Documentaries are just an extra and so are not especially justified on the site, even if indeed the old ones are more easily accepted and the rule about traffic cars is relaxed. I guess this one is acceptable, but there will be duplicate cars to merge/regroup once identified. -- Last edit: 2014-03-26 17:33:11 |

![]() No, if the car is just seen passing it should be listed as 1-star. There are many documentary where cars have role (when involved in the doc), so if the cars here have no role they should stay as 1-star even if more visible than others. These should be changed then. |

[dead external link to a smiley] Way to go me on completely misunderstanding Lateef's comment. |

Are those a pair of Yellow Coach Z-BHs? I submitted a somewhat closer view but I guess it was still too background. -- Last edit: 2014-03-26 20:15:20 |

So, let me get this straight: TV-series, mini-series and animated series are also extras? As in, everything not being a movie, by definition are considered extras? In fact, movie is per etymological definition short for "moving images", which would apply to documentaries as well. I would rather think that this pivot is related to fiction versus reality? |
◊ 2014-03-27 16:52 |
Movie in this context is the fictional thing with a story, actors, etc. Here we made the equivalent of what movie sites list as actors, but with cars. By extension we also included series, bikes and background cars. And then also documentaries, but not any one, and not all cars in these either. -- Last edit: 2014-03-27 16:53:24 |
