chris40 ◊ 2009-03-05 11:13	The toy car is the celebrated Austin J40, styled after the A40 Devon/Dorset. Austin set up a factory to make these and the Pathfinder (based on a 30s Austin Seven race car) in the early 50s, employing IIRC miners whose health problems prevented them working in the pits.

Leoz ◊ 2012-03-23 05:08	That scrapyard is such a waste! Even if those cars were that common back then. Looking at the yard in this film kind of makes me glad there are less breakers yards around today (though I've long been a "fan" of them ). However, the yards near where I live mostly seemed to have "modernised" a bit over the years. They tend to always strip every car of all its salvageable parts (even if it's likely that very few will sell so fast, or at all), store them in warehouses by part, number them and often end up flogging them online through parts distributors, while a lot of the shells and bodies are stacked on large iron shelves - actually a much better way than just crushing full cars - more economical and efficient for most, too. Not saying cars still don't get crushed, but as far as I know in the yards that I know of it's mostly just the badly-worn and rotten remains that often get rounded up and crushed along with cars that are complete wrecks. Any classics that end up in the local yards are often preserved, sometimes even advertised in the local paper or car magazine classifieds. Pity then that sometimes banger racers get their hands on them first (looks fun, but never really liked that sport personally).
