Very good film based on famous W.Nabokov novel... not very "correct" subject :D

Dolores "Lolita", played by the pretty Sue Lyon :)

It's amazing that they thought that a few American cars with false number plates and a tin box with "US Mail" could disguise a quintessentially English back street!

Grover Road, Watford. Supposed to be a poor New York neighbourhood.

Actually, some of the UK locations were suprisingly convincing. This would be one. But the post about mailboxes and a couple of American cars parked on the street in one sequence is an observation I had as well. The chimneys, the roof design and the narrow street were simply too English. But it works OK considering Kubrick only expected the average moviegoer to watch it once at the theatre, not multiple times, let alone with the ability to stop motion and screen grab to deconstruct his work. Overall, I thought he did a remarkable job in creating Vermont-on-Thames.

RAF Bushey Hall air force base was close by Watford and was used as a headquarters facility for the United States Army Air Forces Eighth Air Force in the UK, and then became London Central Elementary High School, a US Department of Defense Dependents School from 1962-71, which means US cars could easily be sourced locally if needed.

In the summer of 76 it had been left empty and was used as a summer camp for deprived kids from Lambeth - one of the poorest districts in London. How do I know? I was a volunteer helper - my first and only experience as a social worker.

I didn't realize until watching this that Clare used to be a male name also.

Helge is apparently a male name. I thought Helge Schneider was a woman all this time.
