We should think also about an other distribution of of stars for the cars: as JohnS correctly says above, the cars driven by the actors are fake F1 cars. So they shoud get a **** star rating and the real F1 cars only * star. An example: Real F1 Ferrari: Fake F1 Ferrari: In a very short sceene, you can see on the left the real #17 F1 Ferrari during the Monaco GP, on right side the parc fermé of the film crew with all the fake F1 GP cars - among them the fake #17 Ferrari! -- Last edit: 2010-05-02 16:09:28

Davidson ◊ 2012-02-07 16:01	Sorry to contradict 'mgisbert', but the car which Pete Aron (James Garner) drove in the film was not the Honda but was based on the new McLaren M2B http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_M2B Sadly, the new McLaren was unreliable (with the uncompetitive V8 Ford unit being replaced with a Serenissima unit), and most of the actual race scenes made use of other cars painted to represent the McLaren (white with a green stripe) including the Team Chamaco Collect BRM P261 of Bob Bondurant The scene pictured in this link shows Aron (Garner) in an F3 car mocked-up to look like the McLaren. macca ◊ 2012-03-15 12:03	Actually the 'Yamura' in the pic on that link is a Lotus-Climax 33 from 1965 in disguise - MGM had 3 of them, one faked as a Ferrari which is only seen in the garage/street scene before the French GP, and an un-modified one which is glimpsed during in-car shots at Monza. Garner was the only actor who drove a 'real' F1, though MGM also had a real BRM P261 that was driven by Ginther, Rindt or Phil Hill doubling for Stoddard. Most of the staged shots were indeed filmed using the Lotus 20-based fakes.

WHAT A FANTASTIC MONUMENT TO FILM MAKING AND RACE CAR DRIVING (they even used a GT-40 as the cameraman's car with the legendary Phil Hill driving it!.. and 5 years later when Le Mans was made with Steve McQueen they again used a GT-40 as the camera car)

CHAS8330 ◊ 2020-01-17 03:44	THE "HONDA" IN THE MOVIE GRAN PRIX WAS A LOTUS-20 FROM JIM RUSSELL RACE DRIVER SCHOOL. HE ALSO BUILT OTHERS OF THE FAKE CARS. I OWNED THE CAR AND RACED IT IN THE U.S. IN SCCA FORMULA "C". IT STILL HAD THE F-1 BODY, FAKE WHEELS, ETC. THE LAST I HEARD OF THE CAR IT WAS SOMEWHERE IN PA.

White with a blue centre stripe is possible from a sales listing, although the centre stripe on the roof looks quite narrow in the photo. Probably painted white here. Ford GT40 ..."P/1027 was born as a 1965 production racing coupé and – upon completion in “Belgian Yellow” – was immediately shipped to Brussels for display at the 1966 Brussels Motor Show. 993cc ◊ 2022-08-11 23:29	Keep in mind that this film had extensive footage cut from what was originally released in theatres and in the dvd's at least. Not sure about the blu-ray. I mean really extensive like whole races...
