Quote The car was the star in the latest Bruce Willis Hollywood blockbuster - thanks to the help of a Peterborough firm:

While the eight modified Range Rovers, created by Sawtry firm Vogue 4x4, were not able to take to the Red carpet, they played a crucial role in one of the most dramatic scenes of the latest summer hit, Red 2.

The film, with an all star cast including Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Anthony Hopkins alongside Die Hard star Mr Willis, sees a dramatic car chase through the streets of London, with the ‘baddies’ giving chase in the luxury off roaders.

The firm had to turn old 4x4s into brand new looking cars for the film, with the hours of painstaking work being carried out - only to see all their hard work crashed in dramatic stunts and car chases. Joshua Scott, from Vogue 4x4, said: “We were contacted by the film company just before Christmas, and originally they wanted us to modify two or three cars. It was a cold call from the company, and I assume they must have heard about us from one of our customers.

“We had the 2003 models, and we had to make them look exactly like an up-to-date model.

“We were then given the job of modifying more cars for the film, and in the end we did eight cars.

“Sometimes we would get a call from the production company saying a scene had gone wrong and a car was on its way to us - and they needed the work done by the end of the day.

“It cost a total of £40,000 to carry out the work for the film.

“We are very well known with doing work on prestige cars, but our bread and butter is working on Range Rovers.

“We have done work for footballers in the past as well.”

In the scene the Range Rovers are used, Bruce Willis’ character - Frank Moses - is hunted through the capital in a high speed, high octane chase, flying hundreds of feet through the air in a dramatic crash.

One of the Range Rovers is also flipped over by an articulated lorry in a scene on a motorway, and most of the prepared cars were completely wrecked.

Joshua said: “In the chase, the cars flip over and crash, which is why Land Rover would not lend the producers any new cars to use for the scene.

“I went to watch the film, and there were two sides to seeing the crashes.

“I like cars, and we had put a lot of work into modifying them for the scenes, so it was quite painful to see them being thrown around and getting damaged.

“But it was also very exciting seeing our work on the big screen like this.

“It is the first time we have done something like this, so it was exciting to see the finished film. We were very impressed with what they had done.”

Red 2 is being shown at cinemas, including the Showcase in Boongate, Peterborough, now.

The trouble with these Range Rovers is that they are very easy to modify in this way, may be the case they had a 2010+ one for glamour shots. That said, a few of these look a bit off and main looks like matte plastic mirrors... 2010+ had these in body colour. So I'm happy to label as modified 2003 models.
