1949 Kaiser Traveler with some special trunk covers ![]() http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/1949-1953-kaiser-traveler-vagabond-1.jpg Could be Vagabond also, although Traveler was and looked cheaper. Rare, nice catch! ............ [edit] First one Traveler/Vagabond here! ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-04-08 20:55:40 |

![]() Edited: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1949-1953-kaiser-traveler-vagabond1.htm The $2,088 Traveler was part of the Kaiser Special series, but for an additional $200, a customer could step up to the Vagabond in the Deluxe line. ![]() -- Last edit: 2010-04-08 21:18:34 |

Very nice and interesting indeed. I guess it should rather be listed as hatchback. |

The car is actually a 1950 Kaiser Traveler. Yes, the Traveler was the lower priced and more common version of the Kaiser hatchback whereas the Vagabond was the fancier version. The Vagabond was usually equipped with leather upholstery and fender skirts. There is no way to tell if it's a 1949 from a 1950 based on the picture as there is no visible difference between the two. I know it's a 1950 because I know the owner. -- Last edit: 2010-12-11 06:44:36 |

Well then we have a unique chance here to list this as a '50 and be sure about it. For the sake of historical accuracy, ALL 1950 Kaisers and Frazers started as 1949 models. K-F had many unsold units left at the end of the '49 model year so they simply re-serialed them as 1950 models (which was legal in those days as long as the car was unused). I don't believe any were actually manufactured during the 1950 model year as Kaiser geared up for their all-new '51 models. |
