The yellow symbol below the "5" in the tach is for the stability/traction control. I have this same symbol on my Jetta, and it only appears when I manually turn off the stability/traction contol. Perhaps it's the same on the R8, with VW and Audi being in the same "family".

Something about seatbelts? ( edit: you were faster Mike :D )
It may also look like the icon which appears when you disable the passenger airbag when using a child seat (but here both airbags worked in the crash :D)
