Anyone can read designation on grille? |
|
◊ 2006-02-19 14:14 |
I could not read it, my video source is too bad The name above the grille seems to begin by "WUL..." (last thumbnail) -- Last edit: 2006-02-19 14:14:44 |

Problem is, almost every British lorry of the late 40s look like this, maybe AEC comes closest. |

Do you realize that this is a model and might just resemble a generic British lorry from the 40s? I don't think it is modelled after one particular truck. |

The bike and other vehicles used in other Wallace & Gromit look very much like real models, so why not the same for this truck? |

Lorries that used this shape of grille and windows came from AEC, Guy and Maudsley. The placement of the name on the grille is typical for Guy and AEC, the name above the grille could be 'Maudsley' (I checked the DVD, but the images are not a lot better). I think we cannot decide what it is, unless someone from Aardman tells us what it is supposed to be. Let's use 'Made for Movie' as make and 'Lifestock Lorry' as model. |

The grille and headlamps look very close to the AEC. |

I think it's supposed to be a 1951 Guy Otter. But the Otter's headlamps is placed slightly higher. |

I agree, although it's true that Aardman's models are usually recognisable. If pressed I'd favour AEC Matador; the screen is wrong for a Guy Otter. BTW 'livestock', not 'lifestock' ... -- Last edit: 2008-02-06 20:14:34 |

The word above the radiator is "WOOLSEY" 90% certain. A play on words presumably concerning Wool and sounding like Wolseley who started in the sheep shearing business before making cars. Although Wolseley never, I think, actually made trucks, sheep and wool are the main parts of the plot of the movie. http://www.wolseley.co.uk/corp/company/history.html Although I am only 50% certain of it the word on the radiator looks like 'Rolo'? However it does not look like the name of any truck manufacturer or model to me. ![]() It only confirms it for me that no specific truck manufacturer was chosen to be copied for the movie. |

Could be this truck with an added bumper: http://www.limerick-classic-car-club.com/USERIMAGES/AEC%20Matador.JPG But it's more likely a modified version of this: http://blog.hemmings.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/53%20matador.jpg |
