This scene was a reenactment of the destruction of the Gein farmhouse after it was burnt down in the early hours of the 20th March 1958. After Ed Gein's arrest and detainment, the Gein farmhouse, the outbuildings and the property were appraised for $7,400 (about $51,000 in today's value) and were slated for auction due to take place on the 30th March 1958. While the cause of the fire was never determined, it was suspected that the fire was arson and that the fire wasn't considered as a high priority to the responding firefighters as their chief was Frank Worden who was the son of Bernice Worden who was shot and killed by Gein at her hardware store in Plainfield, Wisconsin on the afternoon of the 16th November 1957. |
