Zephyr rather than Consul? I know there were two series of Mk2 but how to tell them apart??

The full width radiator grille and the word "Zephyr" on the front of the bonnet help!

The later series of Mk II from Feb 1959 were called "Lowline" and the roofline of the saloon was lower. There were also plated window surrounds on the later models, but all of this is no help with the drop-top. This car looks a bit of an old dog (dent and headlight trim missing), so could be earlier. The Zodiac had a different, more elaborate grille and foglamps.

I was referring to the earlier and later models. There was a lower roof on the later model sedans but I don't know if that was changed on the convertibles.

It is a Ford Zephyr Convertible by Messr. Carbodies of Coventry. It has the second type grille redesigned end 1957 ( 1956-7 cars had an egg crate grille pattern). It could thus be 1958 to early sixties but the car lacks several trim pieces to judge. The high roof to low roof change was made on the 1960 models , but this applies to the sedans.

Dear Pilou

I'm sorry but I believe you've mixed this car up with another.

This grill was used on the first two years of the Mk2 Zephyr, which means 1956-57 http://www.flickr.com/photos/b37peg/5948052078/in/photostream .
For the 1958 model it was decided the earlier model was too complicated (decerved assembly of many parts) and a s/s was introduced Link to "retrorides.proboards.com" .
In 1959 the Low line was introduced and can clearly be identified by chromed headlamp surrounds and a s/s front (and rear when such exists) window surrounds http://www.earlyfordv8qld.org/images/baird59mk2.jpg .

That is a 1956-57 Ford Zephyr.

Here's one for sale http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C343618 .
