From the "1980s House" sketch, a spoof of another program called "The 1900s House", a family from the 90s must live like people did in the 80s.

"Like all professional men of the time, Paul snorts a line of cocaine, washed down with champagne, then douses himself with aftershave before setting off for work... on his Sinclair C5."

Is it OK to list this oddity?

Why not? It's got an electric engine. Nice Peugeot 305 van-version on the right, btw.

It's just I remember it was decided that electric disabilty scooters should not be listed. Is this really any different? It's certainly not a road vehicle (or was it?).

Due to the presence of head & tail lights, it looks more like a vehicle for road than a vehicle for sidewalk use.

WHO actually bought and drove these things when they came out back in the 80s? That's what I'd like to know!

Anyway this is the first unmodified Sinclair C5 on the site! Although there was this thing listed already: /vehicle_50525-Sinclair-C5-customized.html

You know what, the 80's were a horrible time to live in. Just look at some of the movies from that time!

One time my history teacher had us watch an episode of 1900's house that hre recorded, and I totally hated the people in the show. That mom was creepy!

I had a feeling that was the case. So how can you call it a horrible time to be alive? I was born in 1984 and I don't really remember the 80s, when you are very young (and you have a fairly comfortable life in a peaceful area) you aren't really aware of what's going on in the real world. So I don't remember the 80s the way people born in the early 70s (and earlier) will.

The 80’s are just like today, except gas was cheaper, car design was (on average) a little on the square side of the
spectrum, people wore tacky tasteless clothes (well, some people did, I sure the hell didn’t) music was so so and of
course there was the tragic loss of Challenger in January of ’86.

G-MANN UK

2008-01-31 00:47

Everyone goes on about that Challenger disaster! Even today! I'm sure it was a tragedy and all, but it couldn't been like 9/11, an event that has played a huge part in shaping the last 6 years.

A disaster is disaster; they are all bad, no matter where they take place or how big of an impact they have.
Challenger may not have been as big of an disaster as 9/11 but it was still bad enough to become a memory that
lingers, which is why people still talk about it.

the 80s were brilliant..there were plenty of 1960s and 70s cars still on the road as secondhand old bangers..before they became "classics"..the only time i saw a Sinclair C5 in the flesh was in 1995..it was tucked away in a residential lock up garage..next to a 1930s Morris Minor..both hadnt been used for years...the music was rubbish in the 80s tho...the best period in the 80s was may 1982...the month i left school...forever!!!!..i still have a US type college baseball type jacket bought new in 1986, still wear it, its in as good a condition as the day it was bought..similar to the thing sometimes worn by the biker in the "Lovejoy" tv series.

the answer to this is thick yuppie types who thought they were cool..only to find out they looked like total idiots..and the battery didnt last long...then it had to be pedalled like a bike..exit cool yuppie...you could also buy accessories like a detatchable roof, although not many went out in them...there must be garages full of em somewhere.

A friend of mine bought one when he lost his driving licence (DUI) but I think he soon gave it up - as 2491tj suggests he got sick of pedalling. Again as he said, in the 80s there were still lots of nice old cars about that were still easy to work on and cheap to patch up; we moaned about the price of fuel, but yes, it was a hell of a lot cheaper than today. The 80s coincided with my 40s, and to my mind they weren't so bad.

I just think it's funny how sometimes people mention that event (I know I'm too young to remember it) as if it sums up the decade, funny how people don't seem to mention Chernobyl as much.

Probably it's the way the media displayed the disaster.

Yeah, but my mom remebers it too well, and from being forced to listen to her old horrible music, and from seeing some of the movies and things that came out from that decade, I've realized that I would hate to have lived then. The problem though is that some of the things that I hate about the 80's are happening now, but not in the same why, and not quite as bad.

I think you are exaggerating a bit, bad music and bad films don't exactly affect someone's quality of life.

I agree. It's just some people find some 80s music a bit dated, but there was still some good stuff. But personally I'm glad a lot of 80s cars (all the cheap and nasty boxy, plasticky stuff, like that Astra in the main image) are disappearing from our roads, good riddance to them!

Maybe i am. The thing though is that I can't stand a lot of the stuff today, and I especially dispise things from then, so frankly i'd probably go crazy if I lived back then. That's just my opinion.

believe it or not..jokes aside..the sinclair C5 was originally conceived as a fun way for kids to get to school....on the pavement!!!
