Well, actually IMDb was good too, on the subject, though they miss Saint-Malo. The whole French mediterranean seashore has been used for the making of the movie, from Collioure to Toulon. And we have also the opening sequence made in Bay of Saint-Malo (a makeshift for San-Remo). -- Last edit: 2015-07-31 05:18:24 |

Spends more time on land than I expected for a movie about a boat (it's actually about a contract). I think this movie was writer/director/co-star's Robert Dhéry's paean to silent comedy. Not that it didn't have any dialog (to the contrary, it seemed to have more of it than whoever prepared the English subtitles could handle), but much of the humor had Hal Roach/Mack Sennett slapstick ring to it (the tractor scene in particular). On that level, I think the movie worked quite well and proved to be a very pleasant diversion. Andréa Parisy (the resourceful nun in La grande vadrouille) was delightful in what appears to have been her only outing as de Funes' wife. And if all the sermons were as funny as the one in this movie, I'd be in church every day! Upgraded to HD and added some nonsense. bonus 2CV: ![]() bonus fire truck or some such: ![]() ![]() bonus Ami: ![]() it's not a French movie without a R4: ![]() bonus something (front here): ![]() bonus ship: ![]() -- Last edit: 2025-08-17 11:55:15 |

Le Corse-class frigate Le Brestois (F762) in the foreground with the laid-up battleship Jean Bart behind at Toulon. Interesting to see a Masurca missile on Jean Bart's deck, as several plans were drawn up to refit her with missile armaments but none ever came to fruition. |
