Another Duple Vega, but....... Any chance of recognising the wheels? |

Taking your suggestion jfs, wheels look like a Commer Avenger (definitely not the other Dunstable product Bedford SB). https://en.wheelsage.org/duple/vega/43534/pictures/jtlnig/ Link to "i.wheelsage.org" Link to "www.ebay.co.uk" |

I’d go with that, also the early Avengers had a shallower grille than the Bedford which is possibly indicated here by the position of the headlights a bit lower in the front panel. Tuesday mornings were visit to Stafford baths day. We used to travel on 547 VRE, one of Greatrex’s Avenger/Duple Vegas, very elegant in its Blue/Grey with Claret Company livery, and driven by Roger Coquio. The exhaust note, when accelerating away from the Wolseley Bridge crossroads could be heard in Uttoxeter! My interprtation of the recent discoveries/comments here regarding Vega "lookalike" bodies on non-Vauxhall/Bedford chassis - /vehicle_1233457.html any comments or corrections are welcome! Duple Vega “Lookalike” body introduced on the 1954 Commer Avenger III as here Link to "www.old-bus-photos.co.uk" Duple body designation FS56/6 (short 27ft) and FS56/7 (long 30ft), rear overhang suggests longer 30 ft body here I guess. |

Adding this "helpful" shot midway through the main coach clip to this page![]() with Commer Duple badge and possibly XNX xx plate (warwickshire, end of 1957) as the bootlid shape and hinges do not match the rear seen elsewhere. |
