The Personal was called De Vile in a UK brochure, but this script looks to me the "Personal" one. -- Last edit: 2023-02-23 23:03:04 |

Any possibility to get plate infos, or someone is able to read the script? |

It seems that the British Deville kept the Personal script on the rear https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/fiat/126/2a2cbfcf-57b9-4ac7-80b8-e906261a2e53 https://www.flickr.com/photos/7430965@N05/10420584576 https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/fiat-126-de-ville-1982/ Also on an official UK brochure: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/14MAAOSw0SNkCDwn/s-l1600.jpg -- Last edit: 2024-04-09 13:18:58 |

Thanks, so listing as De Ville to match the others. |

This is curious, anyway. The German Bambino is opportunely badged as Bambino, strange that they didn't provide DeVille badges as well ![]() |

There might have been issues with the rights to that name on some markets - we usually don't associate Italian micro cars with "De Ville", do we? ![]() |

Of course not ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2024-04-09 13:27:20 |

Maybe it was a last minute decision? Anyway, would that brochure mean that we should change all currently listed British Personal Silver/Black/Brown/Red to De Ville? I guess so ![]() |

I believe too this could be a plausible explanation ![]() |

Maybe, as it was the case with the Fiat Panda [169], presented as Fiat Gingo with a full set of already printed press material (now valuable collector's items) and then changed back to the Panda name at the last minute to avoid arguing with Renault about its similarity to the Twingo name (not the first case in Fiat history, just think of the Croma and Ulysse for example). But keep in mind that the brochure I've posted is from 1978, and the Deville had been launched a year earlier, so it's not a launch brochure that could have been only partially corrected. Ok, the cars pictured are clearly Italian cars (small front plate and LHD), but from what I see on the web I couldn't find any Deville badged as Deville so far ![]() |

So do I. This 1982 brochure still uses the Deville name, although not combined with the Brown |

Speaking of Fiats there were also the Tipo Digit and the Uno SL, but I’m sure there are many other similar cases. Anyway I see from time to time a pre-series Panda [169] with no rear logo and plate in the same batch of the ones tested by magazines and I always wondered if it is really one of those very early Gingos. Anyway, I think we have enough proof, and, seen also dsl’s breakdown in the other entry, I’m going to rename all British colour series Personals too as De Ville ![]() |
