Sunbeam? |
◊ 2010-11-17 19:09 |
Its obviously DB5 inspired, i just didn't know if it was enough for sure, but Sunbeam is also close |
◊ 2010-11-17 19:13 |
The grille is probably inspired by the one of a Skoda 440. |
◊ 2010-11-17 19:28 |
His name is Finn McMissile btw |
◊ 2010-11-18 01:44 |
He works for British intelligence. I'm thinking he's based on some kind of coachbuilt Aston Martin. I have a couple possibilities for his inspiration: Link to "www.ultimatecarpage.com" http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/1095/Aston-Martin-DB4-GT-Bertone-Jet.html Link to "www.ultimatecarpage.com" Other opinions are welcome. |
◊ 2010-11-18 03:48 |
I agree that the above cars look close, especially the Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk II Touring Spyder. However, I think we should wait until a good shot of the back is available before naming it for sure. |
◊ 2010-11-18 03:50 |
or perhaps a mustache, to be more debonair |
◊ 2010-11-18 15:59 |
Volvo P1800? |
◊ 2010-11-18 16:11 |
Just watched the trailer, it seems they got Michael Caine to do the voice! Elements of this are clearly from the DB5 (bonnet air vent, wing mirrors, wire wheels, rear lights), although other parts may also be from other cars. I don't think so, this character is supposed to be suave and debonair, Skodas used to be the opposite of that in Britain I agree with CA NES, it's meant to be a 'tache. -- Last edit: 2010-11-18 16:38:04 |
◊ 2010-11-18 16:28 |
It's a very precise depiction, so I would think is something real and very close to what appears on screen. I can see lots of bits which look accurate (eg Volvo P1800 cabin, BMW 507 side trim and rear fins) but nothing to fit the full car, and I don't really see any Aston Martin or Sunbeam Alpine. Perhaps we should be looking for coachbuilt late-50s exotic - Maserati, Alfa, Pegaso, Lancia??? |
◊ 2010-11-18 16:31 |
To me it looks like a mix of cars, mostly DB5. Personally I'd hesistate to list this an Aston Martin DB5 because (rather like a Grand Theft Auto III car) it's only partially this rather than 100%, maybe "Made For Movie based on Aston Martin DB5" (or whatever you want to write) -- Last edit: 2010-11-18 16:36:52 |
◊ 2010-11-18 17:02 |
A Mitsubishi Debonair? I don't think so Anyway, the Skoda 440 is the only car I've found with such a grille, which is a pity - it looks great. |
Gomselmash11 ◊ 2010-11-18 17:36 |
not similar to the BMW 507 (except the grill)? see: http://www.madle.org/og05bmw507j57.jpg |
◊ 2010-11-19 02:52 |
That is a possibility... |
◊ 2010-11-20 00:50 |
A mix of P1800, Maserati A6G/54 and DB4. But it's made for movie |
◊ 2010-11-20 12:28 |
I think that gray is a Fiat 8V Supersonic Ghia: http://forum.avtoindex.com/foto/data/media/36/Fiat_8V_Ghia_1954_30.jpg with only a few details inspired by other cars: the bumper of a Ferrari 250 SWB, and the side vents of a Pegaso Z-102. |
◊ 2010-11-20 13:54 |
I'm much more convinced by this suggestion. General shape - particularly cabin - from 8V Ghia with tidied side details. Some 8V Zagatos match the front very well (eg Link to "www.zagato-cars.com" ). There may even be a single 8V which gives the right blend on the same car, or it's a Fiat 8V Made For Movie?? |
◊ 2010-11-21 22:55 |
His headlamps are obviously inspired by Aston Martin DB4's |
◊ 2010-11-21 22:56 |
Rather by a VW Karmann Ghia |
◊ 2010-11-22 22:57 |
Thank you for using my suggestion! I do not think that there existed similar to other Fiat 8V 'car in the movie. Existed even a Jaguar XK120 Ghia Supersonic, almost equal to the Fiat, but the airgrabber on the hood is the same as the Fiat. |

Aston Martin is a better car type for Finn McMissile. He's the Cars version of James Bond. |

◊ 2011-03-28 18:34 |
I think I've got it! The Ghia Supersonic body style was also applied to an Aston Martin! Link to "www.coachbuild.com" So, i propose the name is changed to: DB2/4 Supersonic -- Last edit: 2011-03-28 18:35:24 |

◊ 2011-06-14 19:49 |
This car has obviously been created with imagination, and is a special mixture of several cars. I know that the body Supersonic was on the Fiat 8V and Aston Martin (also on the Jaguar XK), but the front is fully equal to the Fiat 8V Supersonic, rather than the Aston Martin. Look at the hood air intake and headlights: they have that shape only on the Fiat, and there is even the badge "8V"! The tail is rather Aston Martin, but not the Supersonic. |
◊ 2011-06-14 21:41 |
I think we are all forgetting that we only really list cars as particular things if they are accurate depictions. My opinion is that this should be 'Made for Movie'. |
◊ 2011-06-15 09:13 |
I think so too. |
◊ 2011-06-15 10:58 |
No "made for movie" which were not actually made, so if it is not identifiable as a real car it goes to movie comments |
◊ 2011-06-21 01:38 |
C'mon! At least four stars, for sure! |
◊ 2011-06-21 04:06 |
At IMCDB, it is a convention to not give star ratings for the cars until the actual movie is released. |
◊ 2011-06-23 03:17 |
There are exceptions, of course. |
◊ 2011-06-24 14:18 |
Indeed, it is 4 stars. |

Remembering a few years back I put a lot of work into building a Historic Racing Saloon based on one of the Peerless successors, a Warwick GT350, built with a 3.5 Buick V8. Asides being a few shades lighter in colour the car is very much Finn McMissile. The link below is a picture of it running at the Goodwood Revival in 2009. Warwick GT350 at Goodwood |

◊ 2011-10-25 00:19 |

◊ 2011-10-25 00:22 |
Thank you AMC man, we had no idea what this could be. Nor were any of us familiar with the DB5 looks like. Have you not looked at the comments on this page? That basically means "Made for Movie". [dead external link to a smiley] (everyone knows Bond had a DB5) |
AMC man ◊ 2011-10-25 00:43 |
Look at the rear end of Finn Mcmissile Link to "2.bp.blogspot.com" and look at the rear end of the Aston Martin DB5 http://luxedb.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Aston-Martin-DB5-2.jpg look how much they look alike and even if he has elements of other cars the Aston Martin DB5 was still His main inspiration so it can be taken out of the Made for movie category and listed as an Aston Martin DB5 right now! |
◊ 2011-10-25 00:56 |
It's pretty obvious it's DB5-inspired but we don't feel it's a faithful enough rendering of the DB5 to let it be listed as one. They've been a bit creative rather than completely copying the DB5's design. -- Last edit: 2011-10-25 00:57:04 |

AMC man ◊ 2011-10-25 01:07 |
The wheels match the rear matches the cab matches perhaps the only big thing that doesn't match is the grill so he is a stylized Aston Martin DB5 and can be taken out of the Made for movie category now. -- Last edit: 2011-10-25 01:07:39 |
◊ 2011-10-25 01:08 |
No. |
AMC man ◊ 2011-10-25 01:14 |
Stylizing a car does not make it a Made for Movie we also do not normally list cars in animation movies as Made for movie unless perhaps are a main character or have a 5 star role. |
◊ 2011-10-25 01:18 |
Exactly. This will most probably be deleted and put in movie comments before long for that reason. |
◊ 2011-10-25 01:18 |
This is a main character isn't it? My answer is still no (to listing this as a DB5). You'll have to find an admin who agrees with you, even then everyone else must agree with them. -- Last edit: 2011-10-25 01:18:56 |
◊ 2011-10-25 02:53 |
I think in this case Made for Movie will do as it is a main character. |
◊ 2011-11-07 20:24 |
Wikipedia states in it's article on Cars characters: "The design of Finn is inspired by several cars, the roofline and doors of the Volvo P1800 (possibly inspired by Roger Moore's ownership of one while filming The Saint TV espionage series in the early 1960s), the grill and fenders of the BMW 507, and some major elements of the iconic James Bond Aston Martin DB5. The look of the car has been slightly modified; Finn has a different grill that looks like a suave mustache, but like Bond, he does have plenty of gadgets. His small tailfins were inspired by a 1958 British sports car called the Peerless, one of the few British cars with fins." |
◊ 2011-11-07 20:43 |
Thank you, HawkMcCain. Fortunately AMC Man is banned now, so we probably don't need to say anymore about this |
◊ 2012-01-08 15:14 |
Thats what it is its a Aston Martin DB4 the front grill is supposed to be a Posh English Gentlemen Mustach |
◊ 2012-01-26 18:02 |
To me it looks like a Volvo P1800 with a Jensen CV-8 grille, also some of that type of Volvo was bodied by Jensen. I remember reading that Aston Martin put one of their engines in one of the Volvo's with Jensen body. -- Last edit: 2012-01-26 18:11:38 |

According to Auto Weekly, Finn is based off the James Bond "Die Another Day" Aston Martin V12 Vanguish. Great car. Maybe it was also given characteristics of all the James Bond cars throughout the years. PS- I just learned something else. The 314 on the license plate is Michael Caine's birthday... The only thing that betrays Aston influence in the design is Finn's trunk badge, which is a stylized recreation of the Aston DB-series logo (a small "DB" above the model number). Finn has something quite similar - "FM" with a large "M" underneath. If nothing else, it indicates that an Aston was part of the idea. -Kurt -- Last edit: 2013-02-07 01:04:28 |

It's based on the James Bond's Aston Martin DB5, but it looks more like a DB4. His back is very similar and the lights too. It can't be a Volvo, Pegaso, BMW... because the character is british. |

Hey guys... Does anyone remember the DB4 Volante that Sir Caine drove in the Italian Job (Not the crappy disgusting remake to be clear)??? He shot a lot of tigers as I recall. Oh yeah, with a machine gun. lol If you want to see a Aston DB4 destroyed in all it's glory, watch the part after Raf Vallone says "pretty car". It made me cry more than "Brian's Song". I see a GT6, P1800 (Mini 95 nailed it), DB4, and a Peerless specialty racer (the rear fins) in Sir Caine's animated alter ego. Nice one on the birthdate there Mustanglady75. |
