Ashleyhollebone ◊ 2011-01-04 01:08	I was one of the Action Vehicle technicians on Casino Royale and the hero car pictured above is still alive and well as I still have it. The chase scenes were shoot at Dunsfold aerodrome in Surrey, England over nearly two months of night shoots in the summer of 2006. The rest was shoot at Prague and a tiny bit at Miami. To clear up a few things we had to make Dunsfold in the UK look just like Miami so we built all the tankers from sheet metal. There was at least five in the end plus two benny buses which we blew up. Richard Branson had a brand new Airbus A340 which he traveled on into Dunsfold but it's not that featured. We also used am old Tri-Star airlinner for a scene which was cut where the run away tanker smashes through the underside of the aircraft. Casino Royale was a long hard job but a great production.

cudak888 ◊ 2011-09-21 02:17	Correct me if I'm wrong (and Ashleyhollebone would know this better than anyone else), but isn't the featured car a P73 dressed to look like a P71 (i.e., not only is it a fake MDPD car, it's not even a factory Police Interceptor)? The black B-pillars suggest P73; a P71 would have body-color (in this case, white) B-pillars (as on the CSI cars linked above, which are excellent copies of genuine MDPD cars). The white trim on the trunk and under the taillights is incorrect (should be matte and gloss black, respectively) as well - not just for a P71, but for the MDPD units in general. It would seem as if the paint shop was trying to hide the chrome trim otherwise stock on the P73. -Kurt -- Last edit: 2012-01-11 03:11:39

The cars were probably just repainted on a "rush" basis as they were going to be damaged/destroyed or because it didn't really matter for them to look authentic. A lot of other movie CVs are painted in this manner, where the black trim gets painted over with the body color simply because it's easier. You can find many more of these listed on this very site. Heck, if you look at a lot of taxis which were former police cars, they are painted in a similar manner. As far as the black B-pillars go, I could not answer that question. Maybe the painters thought it was correct. I've seen a few in-service police cars with black B-pillars as well. And for the record: cudak888 wrote (as on the CSI cars linked above, which are excellent copies of genuine MDPD cars)-Kurt As I stated in a comment years ago, those are (or were at the time of filming) real MDPD cars.

Granted, I have to concede that I have seen in-service police units with black B-pillars (some of which are department-owned P73s, but that's another discussion), but I've yet to see a P71 with chrome door handle surrounds - and that's no fault of the paint shop either. It also seems to be missing its side door moldings, unlike all the others - but that's easy enough to rip off the car during a repaint. Trust me, as much as I do not wish to disagree with you, those door handles fill me with nothing but doubt about the featured car. Nothing personal. An unusual shot at that, for that shot was filmed in Miami with real MDPD units.
