“What are we going to live on?”
“I'll think of someone.”

They don't make movies like this anymore. This is an utterly delightful romp with a splendingly game cast getting on with the program top to bottom. The one tiny exception is maybe Yvonne De Carlo, purveyor of parts exotic innumerable, who seems rather at sea as an Irish vamp. Well, the Irish part of her. She's a swell vamp and on the receiving end of some hilarious courting from David Niven, himself a riot as an utter and complete cad wreaking havoc with the unsuspecting villagers as their new squire. Barry Fitzgerald gives him a darn good run for his money as his perennially tipsy factotum. And pity poor "guest artist" George Cole, hilariously abused by Joseph Tomelty, the proprietor of the village's only place of interest - The Pub (what else?). Michael Shepley as another squire in with the villagers is a hoot himself.

Set in Ireland, but filmed in England.
