The "Skyview" is apparently the model name: "The DeSoto 'Skyview' taxi, which appears to have been introduced around 1941, was a Waters innovation that was extremely popular in New York and other cities. This consisted of a long-wheelbase DeSoto sedan (the long wheelbase due to an NYC regulation at the time) with a plexiglas roof panel allowing tourists to oooh and ahh at the tall buildings." Info pulled from this page: http://www.allpar.com/squads/desoto-taxis.html |

This skyview taxicab is based on the DeSoto 7 passenger sedan ( series S-10) of 1942. |

Should we list it as Skyview? |

Skyview is not a DeSoto manufacturer's model designation but is a term relative to the taxicabs equipped with a seeing through roof.Other De Soto's from other years on this site are also equipped with skyview roofs and other makes operated in taxi fleets may also have got it.So for the listing I would say :DeSoto 7 passenger sedan skyview taxicab 1942 ( series s-10) |

DeSoto was and still is also the name of an important Californian taxi company. So here the name DeSoto may refer to the company rather than to the car. |

The Waters Manufacturing Corp. - originally James F. Waters, Inc., of San Francisco, California - manufactured these DeSoto cabs in Detroit, Michigan and distributed them as "Sky-View" taxicabs. |
