As many times as I have watched this movie, i never noticed this until Weasel1984 posted his pics. In the second pic, the T/A has a white stripe tire on the front right with a gold painted rim instead of the turbine style! HMMMM.... |

As much as I love Smokey & The Bandit, this was the worst model year ever for Trans Am's when it came to performance. Some magazine called them "Hot Buys" not too long ago which pumped up their price. Sort of ridiculous when you take into consideration that a base Chevy Cobalt could run circles around a stock 1980 Turbo T/A. When they made Smokey & The Bandit II they had to install a NOS kit to make the tires squeal in the back. The car could barely chirp them with the stock engine. Not to mention that the Turbo is notoriously fragile. Most of these cars now have 400 engines that the dealers switched when the original Turbo 4.9 didn't even last 2-3 years. |

In the 2nd thumbnail, it looks to have spare tire and wheel put on in this scene. |

haha thumbnail 5 is taken from when the bandit says one if his funniest lines "excuse me sir, your ass is on fire, bet you'll be glad to get back to Canada and stick it in the snow" |

Sorry but thats nowhere near true i know someone who owns a 1980 trans am 4.9 turbo trans am its got a stock turbo T/A engine and the tires smoke a lot. And no the 1994 trans am and up are the worst but not by far but to me it doesnt matter any t/a is cool but the 2 most B/A trans ams in the world are the 1977 one used in Smokey and the Bandit 1........the 77 Trans Am SE 6.6 L Pontiac 400, and the 1980 Trans Am (whether its the turbo trans am or not, the looks on that car are the same for the turbo one and non turbo t/a). So those are the 2 coolest fastest T/As. The 1977 Trans Am SE pontiac 400 is the best performance wise, and looks too. |

lol i love thumbnail 4 where the T/A is sliding in the dirt and sand and the front hubcap is different lol. |
◊ 2009-10-10 06:25 |
the first one was way better 77 trans am t tops |

1980 turbo trans am "son of trigger" .the reason of the differnt rim was it was the last car used for the shoot and the rest had bent rims due to the 2 big jumps so they painted a plain steel gm wheel and figured no one would notice.they use 3 80 t/as for this one and they had to mount nitrous on 2 of them ,i have the magazine with pics and info on them from 1980 |

Bandit327, Did any of them survive? |
◊ 2009-11-28 18:49 |
I agree with Thebandits77transman, the 2 coolest styles were the 1976-1978 Trans am style & the 1979-1981 Style was also very cool also! |

BM they were pretty shot by time movie was ended but sadly they were givin back to gm( on the set movie mag 1980) to be crushed as they cant allow a movie car or modified car to be owned by an idividual incase they get hurt in it or some crap and try to sue gm.burt was gave a 80 turbo just like one used in film but passed it to jerry since he was promised a new 81 soon as they were built and was later seen in the 81 pontiac ad sitting on top of a new 81,which later burt sold the 81 he had to a friend who later sold it to an online musuem and i think someone else owns it now.the 80 that burt gave jerry was later donated by jerry to the nashville country music hall of fame then when they moved in mid 90s to differnt building they put the 80 t/a ins torage here it sits til this day and ive tried several times to get them to put it back on display.i have lots of info on the 80 t/as used in part 2 and rare never before sceen pics and info on them with all the magazine ads where they added nitrous and stuff to them and some pics from the 80 t/a that was at the country music hall of fame and im also proud to announce im selling 100% accurate "bandit" door decals for anyone that has intrest for 8 each or 2 for 15 with free shipping, they are most accurate and cheapest on the market |

Low pressure turbo V-8 that was notorious for killing it's bearings because the oil feed line would loosen in the pedestal mount. It was also strangled by an primitve anti knock sensor that just kept advancing the timing to keep the motor from detonating, in the days before fuel injection and ECU's. 1980 was kinda a low point for US cars, for example the 1980 Corvette California , with its 145 hp 305, lowest hp in any corvette since 1953 (also available in a 1980 Trans Am). Great looking car, the last of this body style , but a mere shadow of the mighty 455 SD that lived in the same emgine bay just ten years prior to this. -- Last edit: 2011-12-21 10:10:52 |

Hello how can I tell if I have 1 of the 3 cars that was in the movie? It was bot at a Hollywood action has Bandit painted on the drivers door like the move it looks like it has been jumped and there are weird mounts on the back seat floor passengers side. |

Funny how times change, even the 3 years between this and the first film. We miss you, Burt. |
