It's not a fake Shelby, the actual chase car does still exist |
◊ 2006-01-09 14:57 |
I wonder, if these models should go under Shelby brand, these cars do not have Ford or Mustang logos. |

Cinema Vehicle Services actually produced 12 different "Eleanors" for use in the production of this film. None of the 12 were actual Shelby Mustangs but converted standard 1967 Mustang fastbacks and are thus just customized 67 Mustangs with very little optical resemblence to an actual 67 Shelby. Wow, even I am confused now. Of those cars, seven survived the filming in various states of repair. A 13th Eleanor, based on a real '67 Shelby GT500 was prepared by Cinema Vehicle Services for producer Jerry Bruckheimer, but that car did not appear in the film. The only true Shelby GT500 in the movie was given to Nicolas Cage's character by Giovanni Ribisi's character at the end of the movie. The real owner consented to the vehicle being used as long as it was returned in the original condition. Every part that could be unbolted, was unbolted and replaced by a junked replacement part for the scene. -- Last edit: 2006-01-09 16:34:25 |

chip foose is one of the designers of this special shelby gt500. and yea, any1, this car now is build by unique performance. you should know that unique performnace have the pride of be part of the shelby club north america....that's mean the car they build is recognized as a shelby. |
◊ 2006-08-10 03:40 |
Chip foose also helped to design the new "Foose Stallion" which has the same piant color, racing stripes, and light position as Eleanor. it also has mild engine upgrades. Once in a while, these Eleanors pop up on eBay, claiming to be an authentic movie car, when it's not. It's just a mustang I turned into eleanor. |

Apparently I'm the only person who thinks this car is freaking hideous. It's an insult to the real 1967 G.T. 500. |
◊ 2007-03-31 04:33 |
It's a little too ostentatious, I'm also more partial to a stock GT500 (but I also prefer the Charger from Bullitt to the General Lee). |

It is a fake Shelby , if you watch the movies special features it shows them building the car and painting it. There are a few real GT500 KR s that have been "done up" to resemble Eleanor. |

i dont know what some of you people are talking about, ok the 1967 shelby mustang gt500 isnt the best car in the world but it is my all time favourite car not only for what it can do but for its looks and style i would much rather drive that than a ferrari enzo or a aston martin db9.The car in the movie had a ford 425 engine that pumps out 650 bhp and close to 1000 bhp with nitro and a body kit, functional side pipes, mag rims, sport tires and a hood scoop. my favrit car ever. |

i have shelby mustang, i got this car just recently, here's my story: i originally got the mustang itself from a chop shop. it only costed $135 because the car didnt have a full engine block nor did it have a hood or doors, and it could definetly not drive. the guy i bought it from mumbled good luck fixin that piece of crap up and quietly laughed, i called my cousion to tell him to bring his dodge ram with a car trailer on the back, in about 25 minutes he came and we pushed it on the car trailer and drove back to the garage. And from there on me and my cousion been working on it, we started with the paintjob, then we looked all over the place for shelby mustang door's and hoods, but could not find any, but my step grandpa was nice enough to order me all the parts i needed to turn it into a nice car. after tweeking the engine to how i wanted it and finished working on all the exterior areas, the car turned out to be a beautiful masterpiece, it looked brand new. then after my step grandpa realized how much work and effort i put into the car, he asked me if i needed anything else for the car, and i said, well i dont exactly need this but i do want it, and he said, and whats that, i said, a eleanor bodykit. he eventually took the time to order me one and i put it on there myself. after the bodykit was placed on there and the engine was tweeked and modified a little bit, it was ready to go. i still do constant work on it and i work on it so much i barely get time to drive it, in fact, when im not on here on imcdb, im most likely working on the shelby mustang, this all just happened recently. |

Nope, because carrol shelby made a real one around '67, i believe. Maybe the vehicle itself has fastback parts, but them tail lights are customized shelby variants.... |

◊ 2011-07-08 16:29 |
There's no way this is built from a fastback, why go through all that when they could just get a shelby, and custom build a super snake recreation body and slap it on there? plus, the tail lights, no fastback has tail lights like that. maybe some stunt variants were slap on fast backs, but not the one in the picture. The one where he arrived with the jacked up eleanor might of been a fastback though, it looked a little weird shaped. |

Your ability to read and comprehend really amaze me...or should I say about lack of this ability? There is actual facts about movie prop cars and your make believe BS about "Super Snake Eleanor" built by Shelby himself in 1967. I suppose that this actual facts hurts you very much, but...welcome back to reality. Ok, here is your beloved Super Snake. http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2008/01/0cc7_3_opt.jpg Now tell me, how much external similarities this car body share with "Eleanor"? Beside basic shape, of course. I would tell you also, that some "Eleanor" styling clues clearly indicate that this design not came from late sixties, but it looks like you haven't any idea about car styling history. Next thing: prop cars work as a props. To serve as background, to do camera works, to do stunts etc. None of this purposes require high-priced rare car, so they use disguised shells and lesser, cheaper, more common models. And CGI too. Also, seems that you aren't aware, that putting plastic body kit on car isn't hard and expensive work. As well as replacing taillights. BTW, these taillights were also on High Country Special and California Special models, so what? Now,can you show me some actual facts about your beliefs, something more than just "I believe!" and "There is no way!" screaming? To moderators: Am I not very harsh? |

It's a '71, and yes, yes it is. A thirteenth was used as the car Memphis is given at the end. It was a real Shelby, with junked parts bolted on because the owner wanted it returned in the same condition it was in whem he loaned it to them. -- Last edit: 2012-08-12 08:38:56 |

Because in the original 1974 version of this film the main car was a 1971 Mustang (with 1973 front end) and was called Eleanor after a childhood friend of the filmmaker's mother. |

This is a real '67 Shelby GT500.![]() The hood bump-thing is larger, it has a cobra on the grille, Shelby badges on the bump and GT500 on the doors, and the grille is slightly differeny. The Nicolas Cage-mobile up there has none of those. If you're wondering why they made a fake Shelby, they couldn't afford to spend most of their budget on 12 real Shelbys just to destroy, and even if they had, no one would have sold theirs to them (the wrecked one at the end was a real Shelby GT390 that the owner demanded be returned in the same condition, so they unbolted everything that could be unbolted and replaced it with wrecked parts, then put the original parts back on to return it). -- Last edit: 2016-02-19 01:04:49 |

It actually is a real Shelby, though it did not start as one, so you all can stop arguing about this. Eleanor was designed for the film by none other than Chip Foose, and the cars were built by a company called Unique Performance. Foose was associated with UP at the time, and when Carroll Shelby heard about the car, he jumped on board with licensing as well. Shelby gave U.P. the rights to continue producing the cars after the movie, and thus all U.P. Eleanor cars are real shelbys and are in the Shelby registry. The cars, which consisted of normal '67-'68 fastbacks as well as real Shelby mustangs, were given new Shelby VIN numbers if they weren't Shelbys already. Now U.P was a shady company, and thats being overly polite. They basically robbed most of their customers, taking payment and never delivering a car. And this is why Shelby and Foose pulled out and shortly after, the U.P. garage was raided and the company went under. But, those few cars that were finished are real Shelby vehicles. The black Super Snake above is a U.P car, not the original. There was only one REAL '67 Super Snake, and this is it: http://www.mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail.cfm?LOT_ID=SC0513-154080 That is the only one, period. Hope this helps you guys out. |

Even to know now people can get sued by call the 67 Shelby Eleanor now cause the original creator wife from the 1974 film Gone in 60 second can create a law suit for calling a 67 GT500 or any 67 Shelby or the look of it on any model with the body kit is a one big court hearing cause the original Eleanor will always be the 71-73 Ford Mustang Mach1 fastback only not a 67 Shelby or any others. |
