Can someone explain some Cadillacs are called Fleetwood Eldorados and some are just called Eldorados? |
◊ 2008-04-04 18:33 |
I'd like to know that too. |
◊ 2008-04-04 20:55 |
I think that all these of the 70s like this one are Fleetwood Eldorado, and so some are misnamed on the site |
◊ 2008-04-04 21:02 |
From what I can tell, 1970 is the last year Mr. Cadillac's site refers to the Fleetwood Eldorado, following years just call it an Eldorado http://www.car-nection.com/yann/Dbas_txt/Phot_ndx.htm |

To explain Cadillac nomenclature is a bit difficult, because they changed their habits several times through the years. In 1965, the Eldorado (which started out in 1953 as a special sport convertible) had been moved up into the Fleetwood series, which lasted until 1976, if I recall correctly. Within these years, they were called "Fleetwood Eldorado". Later they dropped the Fleetwood name on these models and it was again just called Eldorado. In 1977/ 78 the Biarritz name reappeared as a trim level, though it once was the designation for the Eldorado convertibles between 1956 and 1964. They even used names twice sometimes. A good example for that would be the Seville, which at first was the designation for the Eldorado Coupe 1956 - 1960 ("Eldorado Seville"), but reappeared in 1976 for a downsized sedan. (All written by memory, for I ran out of time for a closer look into the literature at the moment. ) -- Last edit: 2008-04-04 23:28:21 |

Hey guys, new member here. So happy to see this site exist! I had no idea. We are looking for this car for our True Romance Fest in Burbank, CA in May. We'll attempt to get the original from Patricia on loan but since that's a long shot we'd like to have a backup plan. Does anyone know anyone in L.A. or the surrounding cities who has this car in this year and color that we could get on loan for the day?? We don't have a big budget but we could compensate a couple hundred bucks. Let me know! You can contact me through our True Romance Fest website. I will also check back here periodically .... www.trueromancefest.com Any leads would be most helpful. Thanks guys! |

Hey guys, I'm still on the lookout for a 1974 purple Cadillac eldorado convertible. Can anyone tell me the official color of this? It looks purple to me but when I do a search of 1974 Eldorado colors I only see Dynasty Red and Cranberry Firemist that look close to this purple. I'm not sure it's either of these. I have seen several of these purple caddies over the years so I don't think it's a custom color. Can anyone help? Thanks! |
◊ 2015-01-13 19:48 |
^This is a custom color. The closest is Cranberry F/M Metallic. |
◊ 2015-01-13 19:56 |
Are you positive?? So this car for sale in Arizona is also a custom purple because this looks to be the exact same color car as in the movie? Seems odd to find the same car in the same custom color Link to "www.oldcaronline.com" |

^I'm positive. Also those are not the same colors. The one in question appears to be more of a pink. And a poor repaint at that; note the lack of pin strips. The paint on this one is a lot better; but note how the pin stripes dip around the door handle; not factory. -- Last edit: 2015-01-13 20:13:07 |

Oh I see. Thanks for the lesson, I am not familiar with this car or it's distinguishing feature. It's interesting because the car appears purple in some scenes but more pink in others. I'm wondering if they used 2 cars since one scene was filmed in Detroit (purple) and the other was filmed in L.A.? (More pink). In the Detroit scene, Christopher Walken's character actually refers to the car as "Clarence's purple Cadillac". So this one is also custom because there is no pin stripe but when the seller calls this PURPLE he's in-correct. Doesn't look purple and there actually is no factory purple in a 1974 Caddie Eldorado Link to "www.ebay.com" -- Last edit: 2015-01-13 23:46:52 |

crow331, I am the owner of this car and can tell you a little about it. First off, I can confirm it's an aftermarket color and not an official GM color. It looks pretty close to Cranberry Firemist but has a bit more of a purple hue to it. The car is a 1974 Cadillac Eldorado and was originally painted Pharaoh Gold w/ gold interior. At some point someone put in very light leopard print cloth upholstery with the same leopard print cloth wrapped around the dash - this is how it was in the film. It has a '73 grille and a small sticker on the windshield that says "Rock & Roll". It has the 8.2L engine. Sadly it's non-op'ed right now with an engine/cooling problem or I would love to bring it to the festival. I'm only about 15 miles from the Safari Inn. -- Last edit: 2015-04-22 21:04:17 |

chris5133, i guess it can't hurt to ask - have you considered selling the car? |
◊ 2017-05-04 01:51 |
Chris!! I'm just now seeing this post. Can you get in touch with me at trueromancefest@live.com ?? Thanks!! |
◊ 2017-05-04 02:03 |
Is there no way to private message someone on this site? Chris please email me at trueromancefest@live.com .... we are working on True Romance Fest 3 for next year. Hopefully you will see this message between now and then! Thanks so much Dan |
◊ 2017-05-04 04:30 |
there is a way to have private messages but both of you have to register on the forum for that |
◊ 2017-05-04 06:47 |
Isn't having a log in name being registered? |
◊ 2017-05-04 07:10 |
The IMCDb forum uses a different registration/login. An account on the forum would be different from your account you already have here on the main website. |

Ah that's a bummer. Ok thanks for the info. I'm in the process of tracking him down. Chrissssssssssssssss!!! Email me at trueromancefest@live.com hahaha. Crossing my fingers that we can get this car to the next fest if this dude turns out to be legit! |

I was able to track down Chris and get the car! Very excited!!! Thanks all ! Working on getting it back on the road! I found some great provenance since getting the car including a photo of Patricia Arquette's sibling driving it and all the interior leopard print spots match up to this car perfectly! -- Last edit: 2018-01-16 19:44:15 |

antp could have probably given him the sign-up email, would have saved crow331 some time. Still time for True Romance Fest 3 however. |
◊ 2018-01-19 21:12 |
at that time it was the only thing i could think of... |
◊ 2018-01-20 02:00 |
haha. No worries. I actually tracked him down not long after my last post in May but it took me a while to get him to show me the car and then sell me the car. 3 months to True Romance Fest 3 and the car is a disaster! Lots of work to do to try and get it mostly ready for the fest! |
◊ 2018-01-20 04:46 |
At least you are the owner now, congratulations. Do you have any pictures? I don't think it would completely fit in my garage. (Length = 224.1" = 5m 69. No...) |
◊ 2018-01-20 04:50 |
according to my books, its " only " 3 inches shorter than a Ford Excursion thats a long car.. |
◊ 2018-05-11 04:54 |
Here are a few pix of the mostly finished car. Here's a picture of the car parked for my TRUE ROMANCE FEST I even got actor Michael Rapaport back in the car for the first time in 25 years! -- Last edit: 2018-05-11 04:55:33 |

and some of what I was dealing with when I bought it. This was just the tip of the iceberg! |

Very nice restoration job.... very much a Tarantino choice car. So it was given to Patrica Arquette after the movie but I guess she didn't keep it very long? You should contact Jay Leno's youtube channel, he always features cars like this, especially if they have a story. |
◊ 2018-05-12 03:42 |
Yeah she had already given the car away to her "bald friend Rob" before the movie ever came out, according to an Empire Magazine interview that came out around the time of the movie. She only had it for a few months actually. She said it was bringing too much attention to herself. The guy I got it from has had the car since 1998. I'm doing a car show put on by Paul Walker's brothers in a few weeks and Leno is supposed to be there so I'm hoping to make a pitch to him if he sees the car -- Last edit: 2018-05-12 03:43:51 |

I found the original non-sunfaded custom purple color in the door jamb so I had the car re-painted with a computer color match! (click for larger image) (click for larger image) -- Last edit: 2019-09-28 02:27:09 |

Really cool! Thanks for the update on your Cadillac - and always have safe and pleasant travels with it! |
◊ 2019-09-28 03:42 |
Nice to see it fully restored. The personalised plate stands out too. (Though the yellow-on-black color scheme is technically older than the car.) |
