Ah, thats a blooper. Due to the stacked headlights, it's a 1977 Chevelle El Camino...but yet the movie takes place in summer of '76. |

Why 4 rather than the 2 currently listed? |

This is not a minor action vehicle. It's just that the main character dosen't drive that much. |

Either its a blooper or that's a brand new car. |

I'm pretty sure that the stacked headlights were available in '76 as well as '77. The Chevelle wagon, which the El Camino is based off of, had stacked headlights in '76, unless you got the base model trim, which had the round headlights. Check out this '76 El Camino. |

Probably should have mentioned this sooner but it probably doesn't matter too much, but in this scene where Floyd drops Mitch off (and the one where he picks him up later), a white '62 Chrysler 300-series can be seen. ![]() |

Stacked headlights first appeared in 1976 on Classic models, so this probably isn't an anachronism. 1977 was the last year of this generation and was virtually unchanged from '76. In 1978 they introduced the down-sized El Camino that rode on the A-body Malibu platform. |
