![]() ![]() ![]() <--this picture of Karen Carpenter was not sourced from this film.1987 experimental stop motion-animated biopic depicting the last 17 years of musician, singer, and drummer Karen Carpenter of the duo The Carpenters. The movie also depicts Karen's constant struggle with anorexia, an eating disorder brought on by the severe pressure of fame as well as her turbulent family life. Karen unfortunately died from a heart attack brought on by her anorexia, as she was so malnourished that her heart muscles and tissue had wasted away to the point of no longer being able to function. Her death is credited with bringing worldwide attention to eating disorders and potentially thousands of lives have been saved as a result. I do apologize for abysmal quality of these captures. Unfortunately, this movie has not been legally available since 1990, as filmmaker Todd Haynes used a LOT of copyrighted music which he obviously had not obtained the rights to use so Karen's brother Richard sued for copyright infringement and the film has been blocked from commercial distribution ever since. This movie was filmed over ten days in the summer of 1985 using stop motion animation and Barbie dolls to depict the characters. To simulate Karen's extreme weight loss, the doll representing her had it's arms, legs, and body shaved down skinner and skinnier. Very eerie looking film and the deteriorated video quality doesn't help. Richard Carpenter would later assist in the production of an authorized biopic about his sister in 1989... that he would later regret. This movie also serves as an anorexia PSA, though the film does have a habit of putting black text on screen with black objects in the background. ![]() If you or someone you know is currently suffering from anorexia, please call either of the toll-free numbers below National Alliance for Eating Disorders: 1-866-662-1235 National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (ANAD): 1 (888)-375-7767 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: 988 |

I thought this was supposed to be the made-for-TV biopic starring Cynthia Gibb. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097648/?ref_=sr_t_7 |
