These 70s period-pieces always leave out Toyota and Datsun cars even though they were common back then too |

Very simple reason for that - Practically nobody has stock ones laying around. Those '70s Japanese cars didn't survive well in general. |

^ Maybe on the East Coast. But down my way, there are still at least a few dozen stock-looking ones lying around parts of L.A. where they didn't rust (unless you kept it close to the beach). Picture Car Warehouse and Studio Picture Vehicles have a few available as well, but again, they're in L.A. At the very least, a simple casting call might reveal some of those cars as well. |

Not just Japanese cars, but small economy cars in general (other than air-cooled VWs). Most were junked from the 70s and 80s. -- Last edit: 2017-09-13 08:13:45 |

This pilot is 1971 so a little bit before Japanese imports really arrived, which would have been after the oil crisis. I watched this but James Franco playing his own twin was a little hard to take. |

My only problem with this series is the fact that everything is too clean for the 70s NYC setting. |

They put some trash there /vehicle_1065747-Plymouth-Fury-1962.html the cars are too clean, that's expected, but mainly it doesn't capture the mood of the 70s. They can never do it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072251/ excellent http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1111422/ awful |

Japanese imports became very strong since 1968. I saw more than a few Toyotas, Datsuns and KìHondas of the early 70's in San Francisco area quite recently. |
