I guess Italian TV hadn't converted to color yet? It's strange to see a series from the end of the 60s-early 70s still in B&W. US series converted in the mid-60s and by this time was in clearer color film. This series looks like it was shot with 1920s-era cameras.

No, Italian TV converted to colour in 1977 (even if there were colour transmission before that date, like Olympic Games), some sources say they were actually technically ready since the 60s but they couldn't decide which standard to adopt :D I'm sure we have even some newer series in B/W.

That must have been late for Europe? The UK has series from the 60s in color.

From here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_television#Europe UK was the first in Europe to adopt colour (1967), and there are the dates for other countries too :)

Colour TV in UK started on BBC2 in 67, but only really got going in Nov 69 with first BBC1 broadcasts; however very few areas could receive it until transmitter network was upgraded in early 70s. First sets were too expensive for anyone apart from oligarchs and it didn't really become mass market until mid-70s; Princess Anne's wedding in Nov 73 was a trigger for folk to rush out and buy colour sets.

Interesting. The US was not a whole lot different than the UK, just a couple years ahead, as that wiki article says that sales of color TV sets didn't surpass B&W until 1972. And it does say that Italy was one of the last of the major European countries to convert.
