These images remind me of my 'beloved Ireland,' those of my first vacations in the 1970s (6 trips). It was a non-EU Ireland at the first years of the decade, a bit behind the rest of the economy, but so beautiful and authentic. I returned in 2007 and I no longer found the charm of yesteryear. The impact of a tax haven economy has transformed and disfigured many landscapes, and villages with American-style housing developments, for example. But the countryside remains so beautiful that it's still a wonderful destination to visit. |
