![]() "When UK build of Austin A40 [GS5] finished in Feb 57, Longbridge was left with a pile of 1200cc B-series engines without a useful purpose. Most of them were sent over to Ireland to take advantage of its local motor tax bands based on engine size. Wolseley assemblers Booth Poole & Co fitted them into 1500 shells in 57-58 as Wolseley 1200, before launching the normal version in 58. Austin assemblers Lincoln & Nolan also received some of the engines and created a unique Austin A45 Cambridge sibling simultaneously with the normal A55 Cambridge Mk1 [HS6]. Both the 1200 and A45 seem to have ended in 58 when the shipped-over batch was used up." ... but Mk2 Wolseley was 1960+, a couple of years after the 1200 engines ran out. |

I too think Wolseley. When enlarged, no obvious badging to the hubcaps, no sidelight grille wrapping around the front wing, and what looks to be the end of the 'arrowhead' just visible where it meets the front wheelarch. |
