There's a long list of possibles: sucking the wealth out of the rest of Britain, Boris Johnson, Eastenders, Sadiq Khan and his ULEZ, jellied eels ..... |

Margaret Thatcher |

It is now 35 years since Margaret Thatcher left Downing Street. Will the USA be apologising for current President in 2064? Thatcher was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire which is some distance from London. -- Last edit: 2025-04-11 20:42:11 |

London as a whole. The system here is designed to channel the country’s tax revenues into London, and the politicians in London ensure that a disproportionate amount of it stays there. Manchester is now trying to perform in a similar way to appropriate more than its share of what is left. BTW, I quite like jellied eels, it’s the meat pies with parsley sauce all over them that amaze me! -- Last edit: 2025-04-11 21:03:00 |

I don’t think it’s London, it’s the system. We just don’t have the space here to get into why, or how to even things out, but that is the situation. We have many problems in terms of infrastructure which remain untouched, but the politicians have decided that there is to be a third runway at Heathrow, and a large extension of Luton airport, (just north of London). Meanwhile the high speed rail project for the northern part of the country is cancelled due to lack of funds, leaving the mid 19th century system to cope from Birmingham northwards. -- Last edit: 2025-04-11 21:54:33 |

Lack of funds? They created an invisible Aston Martin using a million mirrors in a James Bond movie! |

@johnfromstaffs I was just kidding. It's from the movie Die Another Day (2002). It would just be outrageously expensive to make a car invisible if it was possible. |
