Awesome car!!! I wanted one so bad growing up...although not dark green. I did eventually own a white 1966 Mustang for 8 years...although it was not a fastback like Spenser's was. For the second season they had him get rid of his classic "Stang" and brought in a stupid ugly brand new '86 Mustang. Viewers didn't like the change (and definitely didn't like the girlfriend change from "Susan Silverman" to "Rita Fiori"). For the 3rd season they had Spenser get back his 66 Mustang and Susan came back! Whatever happened to the Mustang/s used in "Spenser: For Hire?" |

Gas cap is of the 1965 type, and as both the grille (resulting in it looking like a 1966) and the side trim are missing, I think we can list it as a 1965. |

For chase scenes and minor stunts. Must have stiffer, higher springs to keep from bottoming out. They use a special stunt car with a full roll cage (usually) for the more dangerous stunts |

The audio of the motor during chase scenes sounds like a built motor. Probably dubbed? Not a GT package. PROBABLY a 289-4V 225 horsepower. I dont see any GT badging. The best factory motor in 1965 was the 4.7L 289cu hi output four barrel making 271 HP....."and beginning in June, a powerful 4 barrel, solid lifter, 289 cid 271 horsepower V-8 engine." Link to "www.mustangspecs.com" "At the time there was a Mustang parts vendor in Nashua NH that would supply some replacement parts for the cars they used. In talking to the guy that owned the place, I guess they'd regularly buy replacement mirrors, glass, sheet metal etc as the cars picked up damage... He thought they had 2 or 3 cars in use; Ivy green, Black interiors, 289 automatics, although at least one was a stick, IIRC. One that was mostly interior shots, and two for exterior views. He said they purposely removed the grill bars and other trim that would peg it as 65 or 66 so the different cars would look the same." https://www.vintage-mustang.com/threads/spenser-for-hire-mustang.410504/ |
