1955-63 liftgate + 1963+ front blinkers = 1963 only model? I'll forget that Alex_DJ's thumb gives the impression that the van has a 1950-54 roof, without the overhang. Really disturbing...
If so, it seems to have had a tough life, for a 12-year old van.

Made after March 11, 1953 (fuel filler), but before December 21, 1953 (no rear bumper)

A 1963 would already have the multi-chamber (form July 31, 1961) taillights, these look pretty round. Front indicators added later.

reminds me of our '51 T1 swallowed up by the floods of river Neckar in 1970, not that this one is a '51 model, but it looks used like ours did afterwards.

@ tore-40:
It appears that you forget the 1955-63 tailgate ;)
Alex_DJ's last thumb shows what seems to be a roof overhang: was it "missing" due to an optical effect in the 1st thumb?. Anyway, according to the idea that the front blinkers are not genuine parts while the taillamps look indeed small enough to be pre-1962 ones, it should then be a 1955-61 T1 with a lost rear bumper (which sounds really possible given the overall condition of the van).
Did I forget anything that would contradict this idea?

Well the fuel filler was added 1953 anyway, but yes, indeed, the rear door was added from March 1, 1955, I guess I missed that one. So with modifications front and rear included, 1955-61 sounds like a pretty correct year range.

2-tone paint: as long as this paint job was factory made and assuming it's a German model, a Acht-/Siebensitzer or a Campingwagen? The Pop-up roof would make me think about the latter, but could it be a later addition?
