Don't know about the trim level (the GL would have leather interor) but this is a 1974 (1973+ grille, 1973+ indicators, 1974+ no front vent windows), isn't it?

It's a 72 plate if genuine and looks LHD. But these things can be faked ...

FWIW the headlamps seem to be white, not 'selective yellow'

Volvo MY's until, I believe, roughly the year 2000, started after the industrial holiday in July/August the year before the actual Indicated Model Year, and continued roughly to the Midsummer the next year. Hence a 1972 plate would make sence for a 1973 car.

I have to disagree that this is a 1974 MY, as the 1974 bumper was much bigger Link to "www.swedespeed.com" . But on the other hand the original 1973 bumper was rather thin Link to "www.swedespeed.com" .

Apart from those two bumpers there was another one https://www.ipdusa.com/blogs/363/customer-spotlight-carlos-heiligman specially made for the U.S. market. It was almost a normal 1973 bumper which was extended to comply with U.S. crash legislations.

Not many non Swedish cars were branded GL for the upmarket models, but E for having (Electronic) Fuel Injection. I don't know what was the case for France, but it doesn't have a GL badge in the grill which it should have if being a GL.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.

I believe this is not a 1972 MY, but a 1973 My registered in 1972...

The metallic paint wasn't really available on the cheaper models, but indicated it had a fuel injected engine. Those models were branded GL in some countries and E in others.
Also arguing this is a more upmarket car are the chromed wheel embellishers.

On the GL models a badge was (usually) present in the grill, but I haven't seen a special badge for the E models.
