This bus sounded like it had a diesel engine in it, Such as a 2 cycle Detroit or a 4 cycle Cummins or CAT, I don't recall International even offering diesel engines as options on the Loadstar school bus chassis like they did on the S Series school bus chassis, At least I haven't seen and heard any in person, But I think there were probably a few Loadstar diesel bus chassis made, Or maybe this bus had the International 345 gas V8 in it and it was just dubbed over with diesel engine sounds.

They offered diesels in all loadstars during all production years, caterpillar and Detroit as well as IH Diesels.

I had the impression it had a Detroit Diesel and an Allison automatic transmission.

Sure sounds like a Detroit.
But it has a manual transmission: you can hear the acceleration is that of a stick shift, and you can see the stick when Forrest Jr boards the bus and talks to the driver.

I love the 1941 Chevrolet School Bus' "descendant" too. :D
