According to /vehicle_589558-Volvo-244-1979.html there's a possibility that no Metallic coloured cars were assembled in Australia. Can anyone verify that statement?

The car in question is a 1980 (rectangular door mirrors) Volvo 244 GL (rectangular head lights) http://www.garaget.org/?car=331761&image=3151383 . That is 1980 only.

I remember when these were introduced. Back then, aged nine, I thought it was the most beautiful thing that has ever been produced. Today, slightly older, I believe other thing even more beautiful. The 1981 MY wasn't that bad either :D ...

I heard this from somewhere too, but I'm not sure if I believe it. For one, imported cars at the time were subject to extremely high duties (at one point they were nearly 60%). Would someone pay such a huge premium for a car just because it had metallic paint? If this was the case, no metallics would have sold.
