The car in question is a 1980 (rectangular door mirrors) Volvo 244 GL (rectangular head lights) http://www.garaget.org/?car=331761&image=3151383 . That is 1980 only. I remember when these were introduced. Back then, aged nine, I thought it was the most beautiful thing that has ever been produced. Today, slightly older, I believe other thing even more beautiful. The 1981 MY wasn't that bad either ...

For one, imported cars at the time were subject to extremely high duties (at one point they were nearly 60%). Would someone pay such a huge premium for a car just because it had metallic paint? If this was the case, no metallics would have sold.
