I recently found out one of my 'old' Teachers from when I went to school (Baumholder Amer HS,W.Germany....it's on a US Base?)actually bought one of these things,and brought it 'stateside' when he retired,he enters it in car shows!! Yes, they had special paths where they drove with their Trabants, in order to get quickly to the right position, in case of an escape attempt. The actual inner German border had a signal fence some kilometers away from it, which would send a signal once the electric circuit was interrupted. The border guards than had plenty of time to react, making it a perverse manhunt in the woods between the signal fence and the border itself. |
