1979 Cadillac, special edition "Custom Phaeton Coupe" [99% sure] |

Yes, it is a 1979 Coupe Deville Phaeton. The color is Western Saddle Firemist with antique saddle interior and dark brown cloth top. Only 2,400 custom Phaeton editions were made in '79, and very few were in Western Saddle. I should know, I own this car's twin. |

I love the way the drug-addled, paranoid Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) charges around in this wallowing land yacht (with the handling of a futon) in the 1980 segment of this film. |

Another triplet to add to Benzilla's twin. I too chased this car's double for years. Finally succeeded this past April |

These models actually dropped the DeVille moniker and were know as Custom Phaeton Coupe and Custom Phaeton Sedan. On the body and dash where you'd find the DeVille script you got a Phaeton scipt instead. |

Actually, the dash still says DeVille. |

it's a difficult car to drive whether you are stoned or not and it's definetly a Coupe DeVille |
◊ 2010-08-13 05:35 |
Yeah driving a car that's probably 225 inches long isn't an assignment for a cokehead. |

The one song that will always remind me of this awesome coupe deville is Jump into the Fire by Harry Nilsson which actually played during the sequence involving this car. Whenever I hear that song I cannot stop myself from thinking about that car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QghwNqlCRE |

What makes this car a "Phaeton", except just as a label? |
◊ 2011-02-26 20:04 |
My boss has a fourth identical Phaeton (quadruplets ) - he was looking for years for a white-and-navy blue one but got the bronze one instead. |

There's a number of features only available on the Phaetons, of which only 2400 were made, including the colour schemes and canvas roof. -- Last edit: 2013-02-22 00:32:04 |

It's a big car, yes, but being stoned on cocaine kind of hinders your motor skills, so driving any vehicle on coke is no easy task, let alone a 225 inch Cadillac. -- Last edit: 2012-07-20 10:17:57 |

I like the scene where he's paying more attention to the helicopter than driving and almost rear ends a stopped car. He slams on the brake pedal and also the floor mounted e-brake pedal. -- Last edit: 2012-07-22 06:04:32 |

Is driving stoned on coke similar to driving drunk? |
◊ 2012-07-23 08:00 |
No, cocaine has different effects on the body than alcohol. -- Last edit: 2012-09-05 03:41:54 |

I wonder whatever happened to this particular vehicle, considering it was used in several productions apparently in 1989-90, etc. |

Looks like it's missing a piece of trim on the bumper. -- Last edit: 2013-02-11 16:23:19 (antp) |

Great Car! |

The Cadillac used in the movie also had an aftermarket third brake light. This was a requirement on cars in the USA since 1986 and a popular item to add afterwards at the time to update the look and safety of a car. But they weren't available in 1979! |
◊ 2016-01-24 15:50 |
Yes, they were. In 1979/1980 were was a sudden safety-related hype for then. In Europe we had these ones, all aftersales market stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAaddsD7AMQ For a short time they were popular, but some years later they even became illegal (at lest in West Germany). |

Changed main image back to the one I uploaded in 2007 (yikes, what a long time ago!), because even though it's smaller, the front of the car is in better focus. Previous main image: -- Last edit: 2023-07-04 00:06:24 |
