It is Gibraltar plate for GBZ - Guernsey (GBG) plates were also G1234 format. Looks like ZEPHYR lettering on plate light more than CONSUL. Bigger rear lights mean a late one - Oct 54+. |

I am a bit surprised by the fact it is a left hand drive car. I supposed they were right hand drive in Gibraltar...!!! |

I don't know why but Gib has always been LHD, which is a useful tip for separating from Guernsey cars, especially when they're away from their home territories. We have a handful of each buried away in various places. |

Wikipedia says Gibraltar switched to driving on the right in 1929 "to avoid accidents involving vehicles from Spain". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic#Gibraltar Guernsey plates don't have any prefixes, just a number. Sometimes the GBG sticker is incorporated into the plate. http://www.worldlicenseplates.com/world/AT_GUER.html |

It's indeed a Consul, which can be seen without reading the script on the boot lid. The Consul had painted boot lid handle https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/Ford_Consul_MkI_rear.jpg . While the Zephyr Six (and the Zephyr Zodiac) had chromed boot lid handle Link to "www.simoncars.co.uk" . Also the Zephyr Six (and the Zephyr Zodiac) had the script divided, so instead of having it on the boot handle it was on the left and right hand side of it. |
