For the transporter (which has trade plates). Commentary describes the Cambridges as being loaded on to "Queen Marys" so that might be enough of a clue for an ID??![]() ![]() ![]() |

'Queen Mary' was the colloquial name used for the trailers used to ferry aircraft fuselages around during WW2, usually towed by one of those odd looking flat front Austin trucks (find with as Google image search). Maybe it is a name that just stuck. This truck looks to be something post WW2. -- Last edit: 2015-06-12 03:24:22 |

This looks like a Austin FE. (The WW2 flat fronts were Bedford oxc 's) |

That looks like the Willenhall cab, and the truck was owned by Austin, so it would be most unlikely to be badged as Morris, and even less likely to be a Dennis! |

Trailer reminds of the old Dinky toy trailer . |

Not an Austin FE I believe, as the front axle is too far forward in line almost with the front of the door glass. The FE's front wheel would be welll to the rear of the cab door glass as here... /vehicle_661825-Austin-3-Ton-FE-1955.html Also the distinctive FE wing shape is not seen despite it being painted in a darker colour it follows the circular wheel-arch shape. |

Filming date (probably Aug 54 at latest) would be very tight for FE, maybe too tight?? |

1954 Austin K-4 6-8 Ton Tractor with G C Smith cab. "A distinctive forward-control cab has been produced by Messrs. G. C. Smith (Coachworks), Long Whatton, Loughborough, for Austin 2-ton and 5-ton long-wheelbase chassis." Read more at Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" ![]() edit: This cab is a better match for the details on the front. More than one company probably produced forward control cabs for the K4 Loadstar. https://www.flickr.com/photos/56358803@N02/7348242728 Another type here, Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com" . -- Last edit: 2017-11-03 20:46:45 |
