I just came across this site. I own this wonderful piece of American automotive history. I bought it from the original owner, Alex, in 1985. He purchased it new and drove it for 30 years to work in the South Bay area near Los Angeles. One day, I saw a For Sale sign, and the next day it was mine. It has been in several movies and commercials, including Oprah Winfrey's Women of Brewster Place, and the horrifying U-turn on the freeway scene in Don't Tell Mom the Baby Sitter's Dead. This is a model 46 Buick Special riviera with original factory air conditioning and power steering. Buick used the name riviera for their two door hard tops. It was designed to look like a convertible with no B (center) pillars. Later Buick used the riviera name for their new luxury sport coupe, the Buick Riviera. The trademark Buick "portholes" are actually called "ventiports". The air conditioner unit is in the trunk and air flows into the cabin through two clear plexi-glass wind tunnels. It has the original radio with tubes (valves). This Buick is especially special because it may be the only 1955 Buick Special in the world that Christina Applegate sat in! vortex99989@gmail.com. UPDATE: 2017. A Chicago Fan had been dreaming about the movie-star since he saw this movie as a teenager. He contacted me and we worked out a deal to pass the torch on to the next generation. He has promised to restore the movie star and plans to keep her forever. -- Last edit: 2018-03-18 04:02:56 |

@ventiport amazing and iconic ride! I tried emailing you, can you shoot me a message when you get a chance? ryan@wargodcollective.com. obsessed with this car and film! My record label just put out the 30th anniversary soundtrack of Don’t Tell Mom, we even brought Keith Coogan (“Kenny”) back to the original filming location house in the valley for a promo. Hope we can connect, thanks. -- Last edit: 2023-07-09 22:22:52 |
