I'd guess Jetta, but I'm not sure. |

Jetta 2 were more common than Golf 2 I guess in USA. |

The model year 1988-1990 as it lacks the triangular window in the front doors of the 1987 and older models and it has the all black bumpers which were replaced by partially body-colored bumpers in 1991. It's hard to tell if it's a Golf or a Jetta as the Jetta had black plastic trim around the wheelarches and the Golf didn't. Unfortunately, this one is also painted black which makes it difficult to see this detail. I'd be tempted to say it lacks them because of the reflection in the paint so it's probably a Golf. These wheels with plastic trim rings are those that were used on the early Jetta GL model (until 1990 I think) but they were still used on the Golf in 1991-1992. Since both the Golf GL and Jetta GL used them in 1988-1990, it doesn't help to identify this car. Here in North America, there were no such things as Golf 2 and Jetta 2 models. This was the first generation Golf here anyway as it's predecessor was named Rabbit. BTW, the newest Golf model is also named Rabbit here but the old one is still being sold and called Golf City. Same for the Jetta. The new generation has been sold here for two years but the former model was reintroduced as a 2007 model this year and it's called Jetta City. |

It seems that these "City" versions are sold only in Canada and not in USA. These are the 4th generation. Unlike the South-African City which is a 1st generation Golf/Rabbit. Note also that the Golf GTI is sold as just "GTI" since 2nd generation. Thse names changes are difficult for the naming. Golf 2 is the first Golf in USA, so it looks strange to call it Golf 2. But we have the same problem with the Jetta here in Europe: the current one is the 3rd Jetta, but actually the 5th generation, as the Jetta 3 was called Vento and the Jetta 4 was called Bora. -- Last edit: 2007-01-01 12:02:59 |

No. Until the C-pillar Golf II and Jetta II are identical. |
