I think it was in 1975 when they changed the design of them, they called them Ford Econoline E-150 and so on.

I thought that the name E-Series was more recent, because I remember Ford flyers from the mid 1990's that still called it the Econoline.

It seems that in the 1970's, both the Econoline and E-Series names were used.

the Econoline and E-Series listings on here seem like they could use a bit of cleaning up. there are some '90-'00 E-Series listed as Econolines...so it could probably be listed as either.

i know wikipedia isn't always right, but they mention:
"Starting in 2001, however, Ford officially fully rebranded the Econoline as the E-Series in all badging and consumer sales literature."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_E-Series

so maybe up to 2001 they could be either, but then after that be just E-series unless it's known if it's a 150, 250 or 350.

So I think that until 2001 it is better to list them as Econoline, with E-Series/150/250/350 as chassis code, and for newer models use only the E-Series/150/250/350 as model name.
